the remote is probably a multifunction remote after the batteries went dead you'll have to reenter the universal code for your TV
go to the manufacturer's website and click on support i am sure your find the answer there or email me the brand name and model # and I'll research it for you.

buy an all for one remote control, it might be cheaper than hunting down a replacement remote control unit for your tv.
the all for one's can be programmed to act just like your old remote.

Did you spill water on it? If it's one of those that you have to program for your specific TV, maybe you need to reprogram it again. Or enter the right code so it operates your specific TV model.
