When I was a kid and not feeling well Ginger Ale was the favorite and always worked for me and I am sure it still does. Ginger is a tonic type of herb/spice flavoring known for many curative powers and the carbonation and sugar also helps in there somewhere too.

in hong kong, you boil coca cola with ginger and lemon to make a hot beverage to sooth your sore throat and help with your cold.
coca cola was originally created by a pharmacist to sell as a "nerve tonic" and pepsi was originally created to as a cure for stomachaches (dyspepsia) and other stomach ailments.
i tihnk it's the sugar inside the soda that makes a person feel better.

When I was little my Grandma would make me drink flat Coke when I had an upset stomach or when I had an asthma attack. Never found out why she started it, but it worked and still does today, even better than Pepto or my emergency inhaler!!

There is something in the syrup that settles the stomach.
If you go to a pharmacy, you can buy cola syrup from the pharmacist.
