My understanding is that less than 3,000 illegal immigrants are known to have died crossing the border. My understanding is that over 9,000 Americans are killed every year by illegal immigrants. My understanding is that they just arrested two illegals who ran into our country illegally and are accused of committing rape murders here, but are also potentially linked to 100 to 300 rape murders in a town right across the border from El Paso, which, as a sanctuary city, would have made a nice entry point for them into our country.
I sympathize with our children whose education is suffering. I sympathize with our sick whose health care and insurance has become unaffordable. I sympathize with the victims of the crime, more than with those who committed a crime to come here.

I think the illegal immigration issue is thus: We're seeing literally droves of mexican citizens trying to relocate to the United States, and simply not bothering with the law as regards anything to do with immigration policy, adopting more of a 'catch me if you can' approach to moving to the United States. This is all in response or as a reaction to Mexico's widespread failure to do a whole lot to provide for the future of their own citizens. This in spite of the fact that every year since god knows when, OUR country's showered Mexico with money.
In some ways, I view illegal immigrants as the poor bastards caught in the middle, trying to make an honest buck or reasonable facsimile thereof, but on top of that wave there rides a crest of people with some political motivations that don't have anything to do with ever becoming law-abiding citizens or even legal citizens, for that matter, and the evidence is starting to really pile up in favor of getting the border fence finished, regardless of the consequences.
Bottom line, though, Mexico needs to reform. If they don't, well, you can't help but feel sorry for their people, but since their people are part of the problem, and not part of the solution, it makes it really really difficult to discern what the right way is, here.
Ultimately, though, the law needs to be enforced, and the safety of the public is a big concern, and today's street protest could metastasize into something worse from one week to the next.
Hopefully, though, no matter what ends up happening, there's an emphasis on peaceful resolution, which brings us back to the fence, as good fences DO make good neighbors...first defining what Mexico IS will help in determining how to try and help...what we've got now is an unregulated mess that's growing rapidly, and I think the general national consensus is that Something Needs To Be Done. Enforcing the law is a great place to start, by preventing people from taking up residence in our country illegally. From there, it's a matter of trying to help countries like Mexico stand on their own two feet so there's no mad rush to flee the scene.
We have what we have by virtue of most people respecting our laws. If the majority comes to not respect the law anymore, it will be dire days for our country, in my belief. I guess the real question is, do we want to see what's happened to Mexico repeat itself here? I don't...and there's other countries out there that are a lot worse off than Mexico, too. Helping someone is noble, watching helplessly as they drive away in your car is not helping, it's getting robbed....

No sympathy for Illegals I do view illegal immigrants as criminals and invaders. The reality is they are invaders and should be shot on sight, that would save them from dieing in the desert or taking jobs from American or keeping wages low by working cheap. Arrest the employers and deport the illegal alien scummy invaders

They're criminals - they know that they're doing something wrong when they have to risk "dying in the deserts" to get here. Something in human instinct should be telling them that if they were meant to be here, they could take a bus. Also, they are having an impact on how man LEGAL immigrants can come over. Frankly, the immigration policy wouldn't be so bad if the illegals weren't making it necessary to be that way. They are a product of their own doing and I have no sympathy for their plight.

The reality depends on your stance of the issue. I am a hard lined anti-illegal. No one will ever convince me that they deserve to be here after breaking the laws. We have our immigration laws for a reason, not only to protect "real" Americans as you so eloquently put it, but to protect all US citizens and the people trying to come here illegally as well. If they can be deterred enough to not attempt to cross illegally, they will no longer be risking their lives to get here. They will also no longer be treated like slaves once they get here.
Our border policy is FAR from unrealistic, just take a look at Mexico's. Why should we be more lenient than any other country, especially the ones from which people are coming here from?
I empathize with their situation(some of them anyways), I just do not agree with their actions to change it. How else should I see them other than a criminal?

Personally I think they should be deported. We have illegals commiting crimes here, not paying taxes, taking up AMERICANS jobs, and much more! They bring the economy down! I don't see why they put illegals on probation here, deport them! No second chances here. They work here and send all the money home, they polute our air with their piece of crap cars...Just get out!! Compassion? Obviously u have no idea what you are talking about!! Compassion for Mexicans? All they want from America is money! But they do not want to obide by our rules. Have you ever heard what Mexicans do to Americans in jail. It is terrible and you ask us to have compassion for them? That is ridiculous!

Hmmm ... the reality is that these illegal aliens are committing a crime by entering this country illegally, only to end up as illegal exploited laborers ... for the so called "honest and hard working" illegals, it's a lose-lose situation ... and I do think that the pro illegals should really have a long hard think about why they want to participate in creating a permanent underclass for big business to exploit ... hardly humanitarian, is it?

I know this may sound radical, but I think the whole concept of nationality is outdated. The only reason many of us are "Americans" is that we were born here. We didn't do anything to cause that, any more than Mexicans (or anyone else) did anything to be born where they were. It was just a matter of dumb luck.
So imagine a world where nations are less important, but where regions define policies. We would be "North Americans" first, the way some Europeans are European first and Italian (or other) second. We all need to start thinking less selfishly and more "win-win." We are all on this small planet together, after all. Why not have compassion for our brothers?
