You need to match up the RMS watts of both the amp and subs.
MAX watts don't say much of an audio system. RMS watts says iit all.
Example:
500 watts MAX is roughly 250 watts RMS.
500 watts RMS is roughly 1000 watts MAX.
500 watts RMS is more than 500 watts MAX.
RMS (Root Mean Square) is the nominal (average) watts an amp can play continuously.
MAX is the maximum watts. Rarely does an amp ever hit MAX.
The box the subs are in could also be an additional problem.

Your wattage for your amp must at least have wattage for the rms wattage of the speakers. 500 watt amp is only good for one of those 12s. Buy another one and hook each amp to seperate speakers. But my best advice is to get a 1200 watt amp or two 600 watt amps(seperate always seems better to me). They are cheap on ebay.

it could be your amp is not powerful enough, you may have to bridge them. Your wire may be too thin. If you want to push the twelves hard you need an amp that says 1200 watts rms.

could be either the amp not delivering much power, or the fact that your 1200 max watts on your 12s could be only around 300 RMS, possibly less.
and make sure the gain on the amplifier is turned up.

actually, i can write 3 pages on what can be possibly wrong with the system. can u tell us exactly what kind of car, brands of equipment, model numbers u are using? i need that data to tell u whats wrong, it can be the battery, output from stereo, the RCA's, ur remote wire power signal, your amp, your amp wiring, the fuse rating for the amp, your grounds, the wiring of your subs, the box itself and so on and so forth... u see what i mean now?

It might be the enclosure you have the subwoofers in. It may be the wrong air volume needed for the subs. Check your bass level on your cd/tape deck. Check the level on the amp.
