In a world that favors go getters, why is it such common practice to hear oh God has a plan and it'll work out. I find it to be utterly ridiculous to rely so heavily on such a sketchy ideal. If something goes awry in your life, do something about it, don't just sit there and think someone/something you've never met has a plan for you. That's my thoughts, why do you believe?

I am not a religious person, by any stretch of the imagination. Nor do I think that you should sit around and wait for life to come to you. But who are any of us to judge the beliefs of another human being. Sometimes faith can be a division, but with most faiths come strong moral conviction, a true sense of right and wrong. While that differs for many of us, I think that all the Catholics and Protestants and Jewish people, and most religious groups would agree that you should not take what is not yours, that you should not intentionally harm another human being, and that you should show compassion for all of humanity. Is that such a terrible thing? Life has to be what you make it, but is it a bad thing that at the core of someone's sole is a belief in something bigger then themselves.
Most of the devout people that I know believe that a God or whatever they believe in guides them, not pulls them. So who have you been talking too?

1. Faith in God is the answer to all things in life.

2. If you're not doing God's will, what is the point of your life? He is the Master with the Master Plan.

3. I HAVE met Him. and He does have a plan for me and His plan is going much better than mine was before I gave my life over to Him. I let Him do the driving now!

4. Why do I believe? Because He has shown me that He is real, and He is everything good that I crave and He hates the evil and wickedness that I hate. We are on the same page!

I believe because I have experience with God.

This is not something that I can persuade you of. It is just my word. You can take it or leave it.

But you are saying that someone like me says that God has a plan when things go "awry." I also say that God has a plan when things go "well." I put those two words in quotation marks because I don't subscribe to the generally accepted valuation practices of most people. "Awry" doesn't mean much of anything to me, and "well" doesn't mean much of anything either. Things just go, and I don't ascribe human-created value or lack of value to them.

Moreover, "go-getting" is a practice that I find abhorrent. What people are going to get is material, prestige, and human dominion. I value none of these things either.

So, in a world that is a fallen world, where people value material, prestige, and human dominion--among other things--I rely on faith because I value what is of God, not the paltry, empty stuff of man.

It's a matter of faith ... just as I cannot understand Innuit Eskimo's native language, a person who does not believe cannot understand things of a spiritual matter

The Bible says that God has a plan for our lives (numerous passages in the Psalms), but it is up to us to follow it or not ... just because I have a road map that details the trip from LA to NYC does not mean I won't take a wrong turn if I don't open it up

I rely on my faith because over and over again when I have had a need and I have prayed the Lord has met it. But more so, deep in my soul it is a conviction that what I believe is the truth and if God didn't answer another prayer or meet my needs He would still be God in my life.

You believe in the saying God helps those who help themselves. Well it isn't in the Bible. We are to rely on God for every aspect of our lives and when He directs us in a certain direction then act upon it.

What is faith?

My working definition of faith is that spark which allows me to put one foot in front of the other and walk the path Jesus has laid before me. If I possessed no belief in Him who saved me, If I possessed no hope in His promises, If I possessed no promise of His return, I would have no reason for living.

Another aspect of faith is a "rubber meets the road" type of thing. Faith is most evident when the things we have learned in our faith walk are put to the test. Like the martyrs, the girl at columbine and you when someone does or says something that you know is wrong. Do you stand for your beliefs or do you keep quiet.? If your faith is where it should be, then you stand. No question. Daily applications of your faith are the true test of whether you have it or not.

Which is more important, the faith one holds, or the object of the faith one holds:

Faith is more important. It is the motivator that causes me to get up every day. One must remember though, if your faith is misdirected and placed on an unworthy object..Then it is moot. Even those who profess to be atheist have faith--not in God--but in other things like the sun rising in the morning, the love of their family and friends, the TV weather man's prediction. . We of the Christian faith have just realized that faith needs to be correctly directed.

Is Faith blind?

Blind to what? Justice is blind. Faith by virtue of the hope placed in it cannot be blind. I know I see the struggles of people of high intellect to come to a saving knowledge of Christ. Their faith is not blind, but it has 20/20 vision. It sees things clearly and completely. Faith knows what is going on and stills stands strong. Part of faith is loyalty. Without loyalty, faith is just a little hope.

What is my personal faith like?

To me my faith is a lot like that of a child. You know the type. The child is standing on the edge of a pool and Daddy tells them to jump that he will catch them. The child jumps into the unknown because the child has faith that Daddy will catch them. That is how I treat everything--God will catch me, he is my Daddy.

There are so many uncertainty and factors that will go against what we want to have happened.

There is a need for encouragement. Here comes faith.

More desparate or unfortuate people, the more heavier they rely on faith. That is their emotional support to carry them over the difficult times.

If you have not met Jesus Christ, you cannot possibly understand what we're talking about. We don't "sit back" and let what may come, we are living our lives like most everyone, the difference is that when it hits the fan we have confidence 'faith' that God is with us through it all, it's not a copout, it's trust. I don't know why it should matter to you how others choose to live, would you rather everyone was just like you?
