There is wallpaper specially designed to be painted. No one seems to have mentioned that. I don't suppose that is what you have. But I have used it and I love it. It has a texture, but is an off-white color. I had very good results painting it, although I was skeptical at first. I think if your paper is the washable type, it might take paint OK. If not, the paint will probably soak in, and you won't get a good result. You could try a spot in a corner to see how it comes out. If it isn't working well, just resign yourself to stripping the paper.

Bad idea. If you paint over wallpaper it will ripple. Trust me and a lot of the other people who have already answered this question. Ya realllly don't wanna do it.
Although it's time consuming, you need to first strip the wallpaper. There are products out there specially made to make this chore a little easier. Suggest you go to someplace like Lowe's, Home Depot, or Menard's to see what they have for this project. You'll be much happier with the end result.
Good luck.

I have done it several times and it works very well if the wallpaper is in decent shape and of decent quality... It simply gives the paint a textured look that is very appealing... If the walls are different textures, it would be your call...
As someone at your paint store or Lowe's and they will get you the right paint and assist you on proper preparation.
Good Luck!

You can paint over it...but, of course, the texture will still show through along with the edges between each piece. However, if the wall paper is old and the glue is loose, you may find that as you roll, the wallpaper will stick to your roller and start dropping off.
The best thing to do is remove it, but I do know how much of a job that is.

Ideally, no, you should strip it first. If you must paint over it, make sure that it is adhered to the wall very well, and then use a primer first. It may, in the future, start coming off the wall, as wallpaper is wont to do.

You "can" paint over the wallpaper - but Don't. In the long run it's always best to do things the right way.

If you paint over the textured wall paper it will remain textured and eventually chip. You can paint over the textured wall paper providing it is in good condition, you clean it with TSP, and prime, if it has a pattern on it. I would strip just to be on the safe side.

Strip it off, clean the walls good, prime the walls and paint them. Don't paint over wallpaper.

I think its possible to do so but you wouldn't want to because I think it will look very bad. You might want to just go ahead and strip the rest of the wallpaper down

It is possible . You have to prime it first and then paint. You have to be careful if it is old or the cheaper paper because it will peel off when it gets wet sometimes. Ther is a special primer that I saw them use on one of the decor. shows but I don't know the name of it. Best wishes!
