Could be a sign of intestinal parasites (worms) Next time he makes a bowel movement put it in a ziplock bag so your vet can look at it. There are a number of possibilites... if it was very thin and the poop was otherwise normal it could just be hair or a thread of something. If it is covered or shows signs of mucus throughout you should have a vet check it out. If could be something he ate, it could be a lot of things. I would think if it was a one time event he will be fine, if it repeats, even if it's 2-3 weeks from now get him checked out by a vet (and bring a fecal sample)

I beleive it could be a sign of a canine illness. I need to know how many times this has happened, and if your dog has any other symptoms? One of my pups had the same thing happen and it endedup in the vet for a week. It had caught a virus called parvovirus and was extremely serious. Keep and eye on your dog. If he stops eating and or drinking , get him to a vet asap. Hope this helped.

Your dog is sloughing the lining of his intestinal tract. This is a sign that your dog either has worms, has an intestinal infection, or is under extreme stress. You should take the dog to your vet asap and have him checked out.
Most likely, the next thing that will happen is that your dog is going to get an explosive case of bloody diarrhea commonly followed by vomiting.
I've been a vet tech for 6 years, and have owned an animal rescue shelter for 10 years and have seen this happen hundreds of times.

its called Muscus dear. And it helps lubricate the passing of the feces. if it looks like theres a lot of it, make some sticky white rice and give it to your dog this has the same effect on dogs as colonic irrigation on humans. Helps clean them out. You might also want to check that you are feeding your dog a good quality dog food, poor quality can cause intestinal allergies and that could be a sign.

This really isn`t something to worry about at all. Like a few others have said , it is part of the mucous that lines the gut. If it becomes persistant or there is any kind of bleeding, only then do you need to consult your vet.

Its mucus. It means there's something irritating his bowel, possibly something he ate or possible worms.
I'd get him wormed and de-flead by the vet. Remember flea bites transmit tapeworm.
