I quit 5 years ago.

I suffer from major depression and PTSD, I was drinking to take the edge off the pain I felt. These conditions existed BEFORE I started drinking, but that didn't stop people from telling me that my depression was caused by drinking and would magically go away if I quit, but the depression would get worse and I'd return to drinking. Part of the problem is that many therapists believe in 12step recovery from alcohol and that all problems stem from alcohol abuse.

I finally realized that while drinking could help momentarily, it was dragging me deeper and deeper into depression. I finally found a competent therapist and was able to stay stopped.

Yes. I gave up drinking because of my religion, but it wasn't a hard decision. In college, I could out drink everyone, but that just started to scare me. I felt I was wasting my potential, so I quit and never regretted it at all. The only negative is that people don't invite me to parties often because they probably think I won't be fun, but I'm not a big party person any more anyway. When I do go and they see me laughing and having a good time without booze, I think it's a good influence.

I have quit "drinking" to excess...I may occasionally (*once or twice in a year) have "A" drink, but, generally, no more than that.

I am not afraid, to drink. I just choose not to.

Reasons: I have been married to three alcoholics (*No, I didn't learn!)
I have seen personally, what alcohol can do to families, health, and mental stability. (*As far as the ex's-two have stopped drinking, and one is active)

I have never drank. Why? Because my father is an alcoholic and every child hood memory is of him plastered. Puking gallons in the backyard, cussing at my mother, throwing a bowl of spaghetti-o's at me in the tub. If you are a heavy drinker and have children please stop. I chose to never drink because i was not going to put my kids through that. My husband doesn't drink either. Your child should be more important than your drink. I know I never was.

I quit drinking. I'm not saying forever but for now it works for me. I was starting to get nasty when I drank. I find I keep my friends better as the 'sober ' one. lol I am able to let loose and have fun with fun people..good music and lots of laughter...I don't need booze interfering with that.

No.
I drink every day, every night.
In descending order of quantity:
I drink water, I drink coffee (love my latte!) and I drink wine, beer, champagne and the occasional martini.

No, I never started. Alcohol [ethanol] is a poison, which God never intended for man to drink.

Proverbs 20:1(KJV)
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Yes...drinking is a waste of time and money. It's very overrated in my opinion.
