I'd take him to the vet just to be sure. But it's my understanding that only the "real" chocolates kill dogs (the imported kind, bakers and dark chocolates). Milk chocolate is less lethal and uaually only results in the dog throwing it up or a severe case of "the go's".
A chocolate cake I would think actually has very little real chocolate in it as most of the flavoring in these actually comes from cocoa, not chocolate.

First of all, stop panicking.Probably your dog will be fine, but watch him carefully for signs of distress.
I know everyone panics about chocolate for dogs. I will admit that I have shared chocolate chip cookies and Oreos with my dogs, and they get to lick the bowl when I have chocolate ice cream. None of my dogs have ever gotten sick. But then they get VERY small amounts.
When one of my dogs ate a whole pound of fudge, she threw it up all over my brand new sofa, so I can't tell you how much she ate.
Usually when you hear of dogs dying from chocolate poisoning, it is because they ate a whole lot of chocolate. I can't imagine there is THAT much in a chocolate cake, but if you made it yourself, have the measurements available when you call the vet.
If you can't reach a vet, you can call the Pet Poison Control Hotline 1-800-213-6680. Unlike the human line, the Pet Poison Control Hotline is not federally funded and they will charge you for their advice. When I thought one of mine had gotten into a bottle of medicine they would have charged me $35.
Breathe deeply, watch your dog, and call the vet.
Good luck.

Get ready for some major diarrhea! You will also need to watch to be certain that it isn't going to have problems with the chocolate. Baker's chocolate is the worst kind. It might be best to get it to the vet! If it is a small dog it will only take a little to cause problems. If it is a large dog then it will still have diarrhea, but less likely to have major problems.

Although I know that chocolate can be lethal to dogs - my mom had a dog growing up (a mini apricot poodle) to whom she fed chocolate all the time. This dog died from unrelated causes at a much later time period. So call the vet and seek advice. Listen to the vet. And keep an incredibly close eye on your dog.

Call the vet and tell them what happened. Chocolate contains theobromine and can be deadly to dogs. Bakers chocolate like that found in cake batter is one of the worst types. You probably have to take your dog to the vet. Good luck.

Take the dog to the vets and tell them. Human chocolate (even though I know you said cake) is toxic to dogs.

Wow. I am always amazed at the amount of people that allows thier dogs to access chocolate.
Chocolate is poison to dog, exspecially dark and bakers chocolate. This has the potential to KILL your dog and it will happen pretty quickly. GO TO YOUR VET NOW.
Hopefully he will be fine, but an entire cake and i would not risk it. GO GO GO

A cake AND a box of chocolates? I think you should supervise your dog better. Large amounts of chocolate (especially dark or baking chocolate) can be deadly to dogs. Be a responsible owner and CRATE him if you can't watch him.
