My 4 month ols Chuhuahua puppy almost never barks.

The only exception is in the morning. She sleeps in my room in her crate. At about 6AM she starts crying to wake me up so I can take her outside so she can do her business. If I don't wake up she will bark only ONCE which will wake me up.

Through the entire day she does not bark at all. I am not saying I want a barking puppy. I just want to know if it is normal.

Thanks.

My chihuahua puppy doesn't bark either. There is nothing wrong with it and if you dont want a guard dog BE HAPPY! It can relate to the disposition to the dog, and often the upbringing of the puppies. A lot of the time if dogs come from a very relaxed litter with well behaved parents they will pick up on it and learn barking is not necessary. If they aren't exposed to circmstances where they feel barking is necessary (say around other loud dogs) they may never start...However just because your dog doesn't bark now doesn't mean he wont start later, and I'm not saying to avoid barking dogs because socialization is extremely important at this stage.

Some puppies bark less than others. Chihuahuas tend to be a breed that can bark a lot. Consider yourself lucky. I have 3 of them and two of them are rescued and they bark all the time, if I let them. I have taught them it is okay to bark a couple of times and then it is time to stop.

Sounds like you are lucky. Your puppy only barks when she wants or needs something. Count your blessings. Also some dogs learn to bark from other dogs.

The amount dogs bark is different for all dogs, and it can even change as they age and learn new things. Even among different breeds, some are well-known as barkers, and others are generaly known to be more reserved and quiet.

As long as your puppy seems to have a normal energy level, I wouldn't be at all concerned. As a matter of fact, consider yourself lucky!

My Shih Tzu pup never barked for the longest time. His first bark came when I had my hands inside Dad's workboots & was clomping them across the floor when we were playing. A loud, deep baying like a hound came from that tiny body. They bark when they are ready I guess.

It is normal for some dogs to not bark ... some dogs simply don't like barking unless they have to. My chihuahua would never bark unless I wasn't paying attention to his every need right away. It is all in a dog's personality to like barking or not.

well i think its normal because when i got my last dog she didnt bark for a while and she was a full-grown lab/mix. she also wasnt fixed and ended up having a litter of 8 in january of 1988 (we got her the month before). just give the pup some time, but if you want take it to the vet and see what they can do for you and the dog.

there are actually some dogs out there that just don't feel the need to bark. Most of the time if they do need to bark it will b to get your attention or to "ward" off strangers that may come past.

But I wouldn't be at all concerned, you are lucky, most chihuahuas bark alot!!
