this worked with my friend when i told her to tell this to her parents. some parents make the mistake of thinking that aim is a chat room. when it isn't. you have the choice. you CAN go into a chat room. but most people use it to talk to people they KNOW. so tell your parents that it's not a chat room. its a way to communicate with your friends, and if someone you dont know sends you an instant message, he can be easily blocked and out of your life. byebye online predators.

Okay so, I had the same problem as you. You need to tell your parents that you are aware of the dangers of Aim. Also, to make them feel better be sure that they are familiar with the people on your buddy list. If both you and your parents know who you are talking to you will all feel, especially your parents, more secure with Aim.

there is a way for your parents to alter your security settings to only allow IM from preapproved people. Your parents could input specific people into your buddy list and this would block all other people from sending you IM. That way they dont have to worry about some 45 yr old guy trying to get you to "visit" him. It can be done through the Safety tab at the top of the AOL window.

Explain to them that the only people who have your AIM address are people you know. I don't know how old you are but AIM isn't dangerous. Just don't go giving it to everyone and don't list it on here for instance. It is fine.

Aim is a very fun instant messenger but just tell your parents that they can sit by see what you are up to and then let them talk to you about how they feel

It's way more secure than Myspace. I got in a **** load of trouble 4 getting myspace but, I still have it. I would just tell them that there's nothing 2 worry about and if they don't listen than have secretly like I have myspace secretly.
