i'm male and frequently wet the bed from about 5 - to about 11! i had horrible night-mares in which i urinated! i stopped at about the time i began to have nocturnal erections (it's hard to go with an erection) which woke me up.
my bed wetting began when the dreadful fear of my abusive/frightening dad took hold. it seems that i spent my entire early childhood SCARD TO DEATH OF MY PARENTS. the horrible tensions of our everyday life was relieved in sleep when i'd wet - often several times a night! the rubber sheets, spankings, diet restrictions, self-hate, discomfort, etc. was mind boggling.

there's much more to this but i'd like to suggest that, if your kid is wetting, you might consider the kid's emotional/psychological condition (especially FEARS) along with genetic/physical causes. i know that you, like my parents, don't want to ever admit that YOU ARE THE CAUSE of your kid's reactions/behavior but YOU ARE for the most part! so, do somethng about your parenting!

Bed wetting can be the parent's fault, but also know that conditions outside of the house (like at school--bullying, etc) can contribute to bed wetting. Also, things like parents' getting divorced or arguing all the time, or death of a friends/family, could cause it. Basically any psychologically damaging thing could cause it. So it's not necessarily the parents' fault.

Also, I know my cousin sometimes wet the bed until she was about 7. And I know she wasn't facing any psychological problems because I lived with her some of the time. So I don't know if bed wetting is psychological, although I guess it would have to be if someone did it every night.

That said, I feel really sorry for you, that you had to go through all that crap with an abusive dad. And I do believe you when you say your condition was mostly your parents' fault. You probably should see a psychologist due to all the abuse.

wear overnight pad, u will wake up when u feel the wetness starting, saves u embarrassment of having stinky bed until your bladder matures enough to carry enough amount of urine to last u til morning. Good for you that you are aware of the emotional/psychological ramifications of bedwetting but take the easy way out...overnight pad instead of going to a therapist and pay tons of money for a problem that will resolve in the future. In the meantime u dont want more emotional scars from people belittling you and ridiculing you for bedwetting.
here's a site that can be helpful. read on. good luck
