ok i know some people are going to call me stereotypical here but im really not. i mean just think about it, if atheists cant even believe in something more to life than just what they see, why would they believe theres even a reason to care about other people? i mean to them its all over soon so whats the point of joy on earth to them? there is none for them. i know that i have met a couple atheists and all of them have been not especially friendly people. maybe its because theyre angry at theirselves for not being able to see more than just science. im pretty sure kim jong il is running an atheist state. he seems pretty pissed off. what do you think?

ok i know that christians can be angry too...but i see far more often with atheists. i think it has to do with their beliefs. im hearing a lot of this "i dont believe in fairy tales" crap. sounds like something someone would say if they knew they were wrong but just cant accept more than they see.

I know more than a 'couple' atheists and I agree with you. They do tend to be more unfulfilled than those with religious faith and seem to have more frustration burning in them.

And is there anything worse than an atheist with a philosophy degree?

What's wrong with stereotyping anyway?

So are you just nice to people because of God? Just because an athiest doesn't believe in a God that doesn't mean that they are going to be rude, mean, or depressed. I'm not athiest, and I do believe in God. Yes, you were right a lot of people are gonna say that you are stereotyping, because that is exactly what you are doing, I know that sometimes it seems you can judge certain things in life with respect and you don't want it to seem like stereotyping, but that is exactly what you are doing. Athiest, at least the friends I have that are Athiest, are just has happy or even sad as anyone else. You see the beauty in God, they see the beauty in science, some religious people do good deeds because it will help them get into heaven, when an athiest does a good deed it comes from their heart because why would they do it to get into heaven if they don't even believe in heaven. You can't judge because you find depressed, mean, and cruel people in every faith, religion, race or color around the world. Remember it was christians who killed thousands of Jews in the name of God, It was the Catholic church doing the killing when scientists tried to enlighten people with science even while these scientists wanted to compromise with the church. Anyways... It's ok that you have that opinion, maybe its a coincedence that you knew a few athiests and they were all depressed or rude. I however believe that you are stereotyping, which in my eyes sounds worse than these athiests that you describe.

I'll try to address your questions one by one.

Q: Why would they believe there is a reason to care about other people?

A: Athiests know that other people are all we have. They are precious because they are our brothers and sisters. They are the people we will turn to in our hour of great need, not spirits or God.

Q: I mean to them its all over soon so whats the point of joy on earth to them?

A: Since our existence is limited and brief, that is the very reason why we treasure it so much. We try to make the most out of our time here because it is so short.

Q: i know that i have met a couple atheists and all of them have been not especially friendly people.

A: Yes some people are unfriendly. I have met some christians who were pure evil and athiests who are practically saints. What's your point?

Q: Im pretty sure kim jong il is running an atheist state. he seems pretty pissed off. what do you think?

A: They seem more pissed off in Iran, and Saudi Arabia, two of the most religious and god-fearing states in the world.

I put it this way. The true atheists that I have met are happy and loving people who don't share their views on their beliefs nor do they antagonize those who believe differently from them. There are two types of atheists: the strong atheist and the weak atheist. The strong atheists are true to themselves and they have done their research and respect other beliefs. The weak atheists are still searching are more like agnostics but they antagonize and disrespect believers because of fear of the unknown and they know that there is an existing being. I called the weak believers because they are fixated on Christianity and its followers on a daily basis. If an weak atheist say they don't believe in God, then they are consistently lying to themselves for always inquiring and wanting to educate those whose minds are already made up which foolishness when really they are educating themselves hidden behind dogma and attacks against believers. They are unhappy and mean. Most weak atheists are homosexuals, darwin racists and baby killers. They are wanna be victims that cry ,whine and say that someone always shoving their beliefs down their throats when it's the other way around. They are demonic instruments that hate morality! Their whole agenda on here is to convert and try to persuade believers to reject God and their beliefs! In God's eyes, there is no such thing as a atheist but a sinner on there way to Hell!

That's like saying that everyone from a particular religion has to have the exact same personality. I have religious friends and I have athiest friends and they are my friends because they are good genuine kind-hearted people.

Also, I'm offended by those who say that the religious are closed-minded. I am Catholic and yes, I believe in certain things but I wouldn't look down on othes for having different beliefs or no belief at all for that matter. Each person is different and it's ridiculous to think that everyone should believe what I do.

If you're saying things to atheists that are meant to provoke or offend them, or if you're trying really hard to make them be something else, of course they will be unhappy, even mean, around *you*.

Kim Jong Il wants it set up so *he's* his subjects' god and nothing else is held above him. That's an awful lot of responsibility.

The atheists I know believe there's only one life and it mustn't be squandered. They also believe that since they can't count on any God, they must do some work themselves, and therefore, they do. If anything, these beliefs make them better people. But I think people can work any belief or non-belief around to whatever conclusion they want if they try hard enough.

If life is just what you see, nothing more, nothing next life (you you imply all atheists believe)...why NOT care about other people? That is ALL about the here and now. I am an atheist and the here and now brings me great joy. Enjoy this moment now, don't focus on some possible future moment only and miss the today. Not all atheists are mean unhappy people....maybe only those who are PO'd about being preached at, pitied for their "lack of beliefs" and generally disrespected for the decisions they make (yet are expected to respect the decision believers make).

"if atheists cant even believe in something more to life than just what they see, why would they believe theres even a reason to care about other people?"
Logic, do unto others as you wouLd have them do unto you is kind of seLf-evident.
"i mean to them its all over soon so whats the point of joy on earth to them?"
joy is the point. joy is the point of Life.
"im pretty sure kim jong il is running an atheist state."
Osama Bin Laden and Hitler both beLieve(d) in God.

You wrote "LOLs at the angry atheists in here. five thumbs down, wow ur really angry. good thing the world will never be consumed by ur sad thoughts." And you consider your attitude "Christian"?? You must be one of those "Christians" Jesus had in mind when he talked about the ones who will be turned away with "I never knew ye".

You honestly can't see any benefit to treating people well without "god" looking over your shoulder? *sigh* Alright, let me lay it out for you. When you treat people well, they will (usually) treat you well in return. People treating you well leads to a better life for you. This life is all there is, so you'd better make the most of it.

Edit:

"wow theres a lot of angry atheists on this site. is that where you 10% of people go when ur not trying to convince urself there just cant be something more?"

Ok, if you honestly can't figure out why the atheists that *you* meet are not too friendly towards you, then there's no use trying to explain it to you, as you're obviously severely MR.

First of all, you're generalising atheists.
Secondly, atheists can have morals without a religious background. Perhaps, we want to be nice to people, just because we do. Not because of a fairy tale book, that tells us what to do.
If you are going to start judging (like you sort of people do), then all the theists that I have met I have found to be unpleasant, mean, hypocrites, always with a hidden agenda. That doesn't mean that I assume all god lovers are the same.
There is good and bad in every part of society, whether you're white/black, atheist/theist, whatever
