You get what you pay for.
The one thing my grandpa always said is
Pay a little more than you can afford to, to make sure that you get the best quality you possibly can.
I live by this with furniture and home decor. You get the quality that you pay for, and if you want it to last and be around for a long time, you will need to make an investment.
If you just want something to get you through a year or so, till you can actually afford nice furniture, then you have to do what you have to do.
Good luck,

It will do for your first apartment. I have been customizing some bedroom pieces for a family member and looked at Walmarts furniture as a starting point. I found that I could do better to shop thrift stores or used furniture stores where I can get an interesting or unique piece of good quality furniture and then use a good quality enamel paint - black lacquer in this case - and add some artsy touches that make the room look designed more than just functional. One piece happened to be a buffet from the 60s that has been transformed to a very useful bedroom dresser, that no longer looked dated, with a mirror added over top. It is much sturdier than the particle board stuff you must assemble.

I frequently shop at Wal Mart...frequently being somewhat of an understatement. I guess when seekng to buy furniture, I'd say you probably get what you pay for. You gotta take into consideration it's Wal Mart. Now mind you, I'm not saying a $6000 couch is really much better than a $2500 couch, but........
I have a Sauder dresser from there, or something comparable...bottoms of the drawers fall out all the time. Got a futon sofa...it was nice for a while, but the cushion was fairly thin, and eventually you felt all the bars of the futon frame up your rear when you sat down. Guess it's your choice. I have no problem if I don't have the funds and need something like a dresser or a shelf.

Not really -- a lot of junk made from processed pieces of wood that do not stand up to any test of time (or children/teens for that matter). I saved up a little more, and purchased REAL solid wood furniture pieces over time. THOSE have the lasting power I needed.

I have quite a bit of their funriture and like it a lot! You have to choose wisely. You probably don't want to put this stuff in your kids bedroom because it will fall apart. I have a bedroom set in my guest room that has held up wonderfully for 3 years. I also have some of the bookcases, but they haven't held up too well (the shelves have bowed)
For the price I say go for it!

As long as you don't plan on using it for any length of time and don't have small children it will be fine. But no many pieces are not that great. If they have a display look at it carefully because some peices are better than others.

I have an entertainment stand and a table and chair set from walmart. I bought them about 2 years ago and they are holding up well.

the furniture they carry is mostly vinyl veneer stuff. it's ok for the price but its considered entry level furniture. if you want better stuff it will cost more. look for real wood veneer. thats usually better quality.

Most likely not. You get what you pay for. It should last a few years until you can get something better.

it depends on what you buy. Check it out first. I bought a futon from there and it was pretty strong.
