I am assuming when you say maple that this is a light wood color. For me, the neutrals work best, but you just need to take a photo of your furniture with you to the Lowes, Home Depot, or other Store where you will look at the paints, and start putting that photo of the wood next to the colors on the papers showing the choices. It is up to you as to what you feel comfortable with in repainting the room.
If you are still unsure, I would suggest you start with a pint of a selected color. Pull the furniture away from the wall, and just paint a test area, let it dry, and then put the furniture back. Does it look like you want it to look? If so, then go back and finish the room that color. But realize -- anything strong will be a problem if in the next few years you will be having to sell the property or move.

I have had maple for 10 years.
it has a surprising orange tint to it. I have found the way to "tone down" the maple is one of 2:
Use an Opposite color scheme. the opposite of orange is blue. My bedroom was a muted (grayed) medium blue that really looked nice All the trim was a light cream. In this case, I didn't use much more color in the room, because the blue, maple, and light cream colors were plenty.
Use a color scheme of same/similar colors: I used a tan/orange/brown pallette at one point. The walls were a warm tan that was similar to the maple, so the furniture matched, only the wood was darker. All the bedding and decor was lighter and darker versions of the same color pallette. For an accent color, we used a green. This was very calming and relaxing. Lots of plants and warm lighting made it very cozy.

This kind of depends on your taste of decoration....Do you prefer a more nuetral, warm, or suttle environment? Cozy? Calming? Whatever the case, you need to feel comfortable in it.
I like the idea of a plum color with light beige colored sheets for the bed so the room isnt as dark. Put a small rug at the foot of the bed with different color palettes similar to the walls and the sheets. Use any accents to pick up the vibe in your bedroom. But try not to do so much. Keep it simple. Remember that too much of anything will make the room look smaller so try to use colors that don't make it look smaller but instead more comforting and big enough to be a master.
You can also try a peechy mid-glossy paint. Oooo there's a color by benjamin moore paint I fell in love with called "Thunderbird". It's a beautiful soft teal. Another good idea would be a blue somewhere in the middle with white flowers in a vase and some candles, again with lightly colored sheets. How bout a grassy green? With white sheets and a vase full of wildflowers? or a soft lilac?
Just make sure not to go too dark or too light on everything. Keep it elegant and fun enough to last so that you dont get tired of the look later. I remember painting my apartment...I used earthy tones...relaxing, inviting, nothing loud...Good Luck and have fun!!
Your Welcome...

it really depends on the shade of your maple furniture.
In regards to the walls, if it's a lighter color of maple, then a darker color would look better. Perhaps a medium shade of green or blue. if it's a darker shade of maple, then a lighter shade of one of these colors would work best.
You also have to consider the size of your bedroom, the placement of your windows, the placement of your furniture, and the feeling you wish to incorporate into your bedroom. Do you want it to be a bright, open and airy, or do you want it to be warm and cozy? Maybe you want a mixture of both?
If you choose a darker color for your walls, you can use accent pillows on your bed that will pick up your wall color, as well as pillows in a complementary color.
I have a friend who has dark, heavy carved furniture, and did her room in reds, gold, greens, and burgundy. It looks awesome!

I think a shade of blue would be pretty with it. Relaxing for your bedroom too. Or even a green, with not too much yellow in it. Get some paint chip cards, maybe two of each and put them on your bdrm wall. Look at them at different times of the day to see how they change with the light. Or even better, get some small paint samples. Benjamin Moore has some I think. Then paint some 1'x1' squares on your wall. Live with them for a few days, and pick your favorite. Good Luck!

Here is a link on color coordination. It gives a few basic priniciples on coordinating colors. Experiment with a few different combinations to see what you prefer. If you have a hard time deciding, you can always invite your friends and family to help choose.

Well, maple has a yellowish tint so I would go with something it...perhaps a terra cotta. I think that would be very nice. Good luck!
