cats..because they are peaceful unlike dogs..if there are too many of them in the house..(like us..we have 6 dogs) they tend to be very noisy..and if they're not disciplined enough to be friendly around other people besides their owners..they might cause accidents like biting other people..that they're not close with..they tend to be hyper and can be destructive to plants or any things around the area..they pee and leave their waste anywhere around they feel like.....while cats they can be independent..they know where they'll leave their waste and even cover it after..you don't need to bathe them as they lick and groom themselves..also they don't become stinky and don't have fleas like dogs..

In most cases, cats. However, do not get a cat if u are a dog person. They are very different. Keep the cat inside. Cats live avg of 2 years outside but 15 years inside.

As everyone mentioned, cats are more independent and born with the instinct to use a liter box. =) Both make great companions but with dogs you'll need to give it more time and attention it needs as to cats. Cats find things to amuse themselves while dogs get bored and lonely because they depend on you most. So depending on you're lifestyle. If you're busy get a cat... if you've really got the extra time and stuff get a dog. If you're planning to have a baby don't get a cat until after the baby, cat feces can cause miscarriages... so my doctor tells me. Good luck!

I think cats are easier to take care of.

Cats are easier to take care of but you should base your choice of pet on which pet you like more, not on the ease of taking care of them. I have cats, I am allergic to them (and yes that's stupid) but i love them dearly, and I find that they are easy to take care of. Sometimes, I'm tempted to put them in a leash and walk them. Also there are more apartments that will accept cats but not dogs.

I think cats are the obvious choice here. Very low maintenance. They can be left for a few days with no sitter, as long as you take the necessary precautions. Don't have to be housetrained. Aren't needy. Don't follow you around everywhere. Don't require baths or extra grooming. Much cheaper to feed. And finally, they kill mice in the basement. Dogs, although I love my two and treat them like my own children, just aren't as easy ... oh well.

Cats are easier because you can train them to use an indoor litter pan, eliminating the need to let them out to use the toilet.
