You have spyware.

First: run http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan.
Secondly: download and run Ewido: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#ewido-free
Thirdly: download AdAware from: http://www.lavasoft.com and run it.
Fourthly: run http://www.windowsupdate.com. However, first(!) backup all your precious data/documents. And make a restore point or a 'ghost backup' of your C-drive.

There are special webpages to remove the quake spyware. However, since you were hit by this spyware, there is a huge possibility you have (lots of!) more spyware. Hence the given above recommendations.

Go into control panel, then appearance and themes(if you have XP,not sure what you have ) then go into taskbar settings. If you see that icon there, you can click on always hide, so it never shows up. It should let you customize what icons you want to see.
