I received an email the other day supposely by a weight loss specialist and he says that he conducted a research experiment on weight loss by drinking lots of water and none of his test subjects lost weight by drinking tons of water. Do you think this is true? I thought that water flushed fat?

I am not a weight loss expert. I can tell you that drinking water will fill up your stomach so you feel full. However, if you drink too much water it will throw off your body's chemical balance and cause some serious problems. You do need to drinks around 8 glasses a day. More than that, unless you are outside working and sweating, can cause problems.

I don't care that this is 8 years old. The truth is YES! WATER can and does help you lose weight in a variety of ways. All of the above posters are simply parroting information they have never researched. One, without proper hydration your body cannot regulate your metabolism, insulin, etc which helps you burn fat and convert food into energy. Also it does detoxify the system which improves efficiency thereby allowing you to burn more calories. It is an appetite suppressant and keeps you from being over hungry. Also, if you drink the water very cold, you actually burn calories heating the water up inside your body. Also, indirectly, the need to urinate keeps you from spending too much time without moving. Forcing you to get up and use your body to remove the water. I started at 425lbs and was able to get down to 235 in about 8 months and a good portion of the effort was in changing my water intake drastically. 80 ounces is the minimum you should drink. Divide your body weight in half and drink that number of ounces per day. 160 lbs = 80 ounces.

Drinking lots of water does not flush out fat, it will flush out the toxins that are released in your body, while dieting and exercising. You will lose weight, because drinking 8 glasses of water fill you up. It's best to drink a glass just before dinner and also drink while eating dinner, it help with the digestion and also with the elimination.

Being that I recently increased my water intake and lost about 2 or 3 pounds in the first week or so I can tell you that it DOES "help" you lose weight and it is true that it flushes out your system but it is flushing out your "water weight" (the extra fluid that builds up in your system that can cause swelling). Not necessarily "fat".

You can't die from drinking water!....just make sure that you are still eating normal foods that are have the vitamins you need (which is everyday food) and every now and then drink something else besides water....

Drinking water isn't going to make you lose weight. It will always need to be combined with healthy eating and exercise. I mean, if you think that if you eat a candy bar then drink three glasses of water and it will wash it out, that won't work!

You have to exercise, eat right, and drink water.
Not just drink water.
Sitting on the couch eating two slices of pizza, a hoagie, a bag of chips, a sandwich and two baked potatoes, then drinking water isn't going to help.
You have to physically work-out.
Water helps in weight loss because it hasn't got the carbs and sugars that fruit drinks, soda, and coffee have.
Water alone, will not make you lose weight.

I've read in several places online that water does aid in weightloss when combined with a healthy diet. Water helps metabolize fat easier then without it and it also aids in ridding yourself of water retention which could show as an extra 5-10 lbs on a scale.

Hi
Just drinking water will not help you, instead try this plan it worked for me so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx

Water doesn't help you lose weight by itself, but it's healthy to drink atleast 8 8oz glasses a day.
