It is possible... I mean I lost 40 pounds in a month... but that was because I wasn't eating as it was after my husband was killed in a motorcycle accident. Now the big question is is it healthy? What will it do to your body? I lucked out in that I suffered no serious harm, except my internal heat sensing system is all screwed up. I am always cold now and that was NEVER the case before the weight loss. I would be sure to check with your doctor before starting such a program. The negative side is that many times the weight lost in such a quick period does not stay off. By taking longer, there is greater chance of long term success. However, if you are determined to go this route, you will have to be 100% committed and be able to spend mucho time and effort to accomplish this goal after seeing your doctor first!

Depends on how much weight you have when you start off, I suppose--it'd be a lot easier for someone who weighs 400 pounds than someone who weighs 200.
It's probably not a good idea, though--if you goal is just to lose weight, you'll probably do unhealthy things to shed pounds, and once you stop the diet those pounds will just come back on. Rather, just try to get fit and the fat will go away by itself--if you do exercise and eat healthy (and I don't mean a super strict avocado-only diet or something, just eat no more than you need and avoid needless sugars and fats and stuff) then you'll probably actually gain a bit of weight at first (because fat will be replaced by muscle, which weighs more) but your appearance will slim down and be more toned, and the muscle, just by existing, will burn calories which helps you get down more. Don't try for a crash diet just to look better--go for a healthy and fit lifestyle, and appearance will follow.
And of course, ask a qualified doctor before you start a diet. You can do bad things to yourself if you don't know what you're doing.

The Mystical Mayo Clinic diet worked for me. You can loose up to 52 pounds, but it is very strict and it is not recommended more than 2 1/2 months.
For breakfast you have to eat 2 eggs (prepared any way) and 2 pieces of bacon with 4 oz. of grapefruit juice or a ½ fresh grapefruit.
For lunch any type of meat and a salad with any type of dressing (except for honey mustard) with 4 oz. of grapefruit juice or a ½ fresh grapefruit.
.
For dinner any type of meat and two veggies (no yellow or white veggies i.e.: corn or potatoes) with 4 oz. of grapefruit juice or a ½ fresh grapefruit.
You can have an 8 oz glass of skim milk or tomato juice for a snack. You can also drink decaffeinated tea or coffee. Also make sure the grapefruit juice is from concentrate and doesn’t contain any type of sugar.
You should only be on the diet for a 12 day cycle and then eat a moderate amount of carbohydrates 2 days. Then another 12 days on and 2 days off until you loose you’re your desired amount of weight. You do have to keep up your exercise routine; it may be difficult because without the carbs you feel a little drained and tired.
Good Luck….

A healthy rate to loose weight is at about 2 lbs per week. If you are looking at 12 weeks, you're looking at about 25 lbs to be safe, otherwise your are probably severely limiting nutrtition into your body in order to loose the weight and that can be dangerous. Also, loosing weight too quickly through "crash dieting" is not the right way and you are more likely to put it all back on later on.
If you diet and exercise strictly and do eat good healthy lean protein and complex carbs, you will see weight loss. Stay away from salt as you may be retaining a lot of water and adding to your pounds that way.
If you are dieting, make sure that you are taking a good supplement in order to keep your body full of the nutrtion that it needs, check out the all in one natural liquid nutritional supplement Vibe at www.healthforwellness.net or www.switchtosuccess.com/meghan
I switched to vibe when i was looking for a better mulit-vitamin and found that it helped me shed some pounds too and keep my lean muscle (a nice side effect to proper nutrition). I also have a friend who lost some weight with the south beach diet but couldn't loose the last 30 to reach her goal, she started taking the Vibe and was able to break the plateau she'd reached.
I'de be happy to talk with you about more dieting and exercise tips if you like to email me healthnett@yahoo.com
Good luck!

Possible but not advisable - check with your doctor before starting any diet regimen that promises such a weight loss and consider hiring a fitness counselor.

It sure is....but it would require 100% dedication....meaning
a ton of exercising. Use alot of variety in your workouts (kickboxing one day, brisk walking another, boot camp style workout, dancing type class) etc. the more you exercise the more you lose, Food of course should be healthy but dont starve. Plenty of water, veggies and you should lose it . Good luck !!

its possible, but may not stay off long term. in a period of 3 months, one should not try to lose more than a total of 25 pounds without being under a doctor's care. i know your in a hurry and would LIKE to lose that much in a short time, but you have to allow to for plateaus and trust me they can and do happen!
