This website has alot of different ideas for different tastes. And the good thing is, most of them are not too childish. There's even some pointers for rooms on a budget.
Good luck!

My daughter wanted an "underwater" theme. Aside from paint and such, she was looking at a beaded curtain to go around her bunk bed (bottom is for sleeping - top has been made into a "chill out" space).

What we ended up doing is made a "seaweed" curtain. Dyed some old muslin, cut it into strips, and craft glued 3 or 4 kinds of sheer-ish fabric roughly cut into leaf shapes. Then hung each one indidividually from the ceiling, in a lines that curves and waves around the bed. Turned out even more cool than we thought it would be.

J.C. Penney has a catalog with only youth rooms. There are some really cool ideas there. They also have them online.
I just did my daughter's bright fuschia pink, halfway up except for her closet wall. She has a lime green umbrella chair, a lime green throw rug, and i got lime green organza with little sparkles on it (prom dress fabric) from Joanne's for window dressing.
Her bed is a black daybed, so we accented in black. We also put round self stick mirrors from IKEA on the solid pink wall, and will be painting different circles randomly around on the top portion of the wall.
Her friends love it and it really reflects her personality.

Neutral colors like beiges and browns combine well with other tones and give the room a natural feel.
