When I asked about Scientology before, some followers tried to explain it to me. Those who were critical said Scientologists believe we were once visited by an evil being called'Xenu'. How come none of you followers mentioned him? Were you scared you'd look ridiculous? WHY do you believe in him?? I genuinely want to know!

Hi ya,

I can answer this...

Xenu comes out at the level OT III. This is quite a high up level in the church and it takes many years of brainwashing and cult indoctrination to reach this level. People literally pay 100,000's to get there, on avg. about $380,000. They have invested so much time and effort in scientology by this stage that to not believe it is a huge step and will end in them leaving the church and the life they have known for the last 10-20 odd years... So yes in part I think they don't want to admit to themselves they have been conned.

And yes it is a 'secret' although not so anymore much to their horror.

Long standing scientologists do know and believe in Xenu and all the little body thetans (alien souls) inhabiting everyone's body causing people grief. They don't tell anyone because they think they need to go through all the scientology levels to learn about it, when the truth is if you told people this is what they really believe, no one would join such a bizarre and dangerous organisation.

They believe it because Hubbard said it was so. It is a destructive cult, and being so they believe Hubbard created the only workable technology for mankind to return him to his god like state of a Thetan. They use mind & social control techniques to get people to believe this stuff, and after a while they can't envisage that Hubbard said or did anything wrong. People get trapped by the starting courses which are a form of overt psychotherapy which induces various temporary mental states of euphoria after a course or auditing session, people then believe this a win, but it can be induced in many ways and has no lasting effect - staring at a wall for a few hours can sometimes produce this effect or seeing a breath taking scenary - it's a known physiological response to mind control, and is one of the trappings of scientology. Some experts go as far as to call it outright hypnosis (Hubbard was apparantly a good hypnotist before dianetics or scientology)

Now while they deny it, the stupid thing is I can prove it undeniably as it all came out in a court trial, and scientology lawyers confirmed it was true - yet they still lie!

"In1952, Hubbard claimed that after Scientology auditing and indoctrination anyone would become "capable of dismissing illness and aberration from others at will". Scientologists have undertaken hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of hours chasing this illusion and Hubbard's often-repeated promises of supernatural abilities. In the late I960s, Hubbard released his Operating Thetan levels. An Operating Thetan is an individual supposedly capable of "operating" without need of a body, and Hubbard made many sugared claims for his extremely expensive OT levels.

The OT levels are kept secret by the Church of Scientology; however, the contents of most have long since been public knowledge. The first OT level consists of a series of drills, such as walking along the street counting people until one feels euphoric and has some sort of "realization". In 1992 "OT section 1 " was listed at £1,000 or $2,200.

On the second level (costing £2,000 or $4,200) the "pre-OT" battles with seemingly endless lists of phrases and their contradictions ("l must exist" and "l mustn't exist", for example), often having to imagine seeing a light and feeling a shock at each phrase. At least one victim endured 600 hours of this mindnumbing ritual.

The pre-OT parts with a "minimum donation" of £3,400 or $7,200 to traverse the OT 3 "wall of fire". On OT 3, the recipient is assured that 75 million years ago the Earth was part of a Galactic Confederation ruled by an evil prince called Xenu. The Confederation suffered from massive overpopulation, so Xenu devised a scheme whereby the peoples of some 76 planets were shipped to earth and annihilated. The spirits or thetans of these victims were exploded, by putting H-bombs in volcanoes, and gathered on "electronic ribbons". Then they were "implanted" for 36 days with images of the future societies of Earth. According to Hubbard, all cultures and religions since derive from these hypnotic implants. He said, for example, that Christ is an illusion implanted at this time.

After implanting, the thetans were packaged together in clusters, and, according to OT 3 everyone alive is a mass of such clusters. The levels from OT 4 to 7 also deal entirely with these clusters and the body thetans which make them up. Anyone hearing of this material will supposedly become ill and die within days.

Article on mind control & scientology from a cult expert website

Bottom line, Scientology is a destructive cult - thats why they believe it.

Scientologists also believe that if you have undergone some scientology training that you may get very ill or die if you hear this story of Xenu - basic scaremongering...

From scotty
"Would you go to a Ford salesman to learn about Chevys?"

Total wrong analogy, and utterly misleading...

Critics fall into 3 catergories.

Ex-members - the largest group of critics by far.
So this would be learning about Chevy's from people who have driven them for years and years and spent much money on them.

Concerned (distraught) family - the next largest group of critics.
This would be learning about chevy's from someone who has looked and researched extensively into chevies, maybe even driven one a few times, and seen close friends and families own one for many years and years, spending much money on them.

Shocked on-lookers - the smallest group as they personally invest time on a subject that has not directly affected them, but doesn't mean they don't know what they are talking about. This could be a car expert researching chevies (cult experts), or someone might hear bad things about chevies so they look it up and research extensively and uncover facts about many many bad things about chevies.

Limiting your information is never a good thing scotty, with any subject you research both good and bad.

Ok foxtail, lets visit a neutral site shall we...

"Because these people who talk about 'xenu' don't want people to lead better lives" Foxtel.

- This is paranoid nonsense pure and simple, and you still didn't answer the question...

I tried this before.

I don't believe in anything except what I have personally observed to be true. There is no concept of enforced belief in Scientology -- it is not an authoritarian religion. Rather, Scientology teaches you to think for yourself, Scientology is a voyage of self discovery.

And now I want to ask you a question: why would you listen to answers from people who hate Scientologists? Would you go to a Ford salesman to learn about Chevys?

When you ask about christianity how many people mention the pope? Or judas? or how a cardinal gets voted in?

SInce its a non-denominational group (you dont have to believe or give up your believes), and most questions dont ask how to get to the top of scientology, then it rarely need to go into Xenu. I took their courses for a year then left. I think it did alot of good, and I never remember hearing anything about Xenu. So why make a deal of it?

Scientology is a dangerous cult run by superficial, venal nutcases. One approached me in Manchester, England last year, and wouldn't leave me alone. I'm not a violent person, but I had to grab his lapels and shove him against the window. All religions are more or less nonsense, but Scientology isn't even a religion. It's a business, and not a very pleasant nor ethical one either.

I found a free download of Empire Earth III here: http://j.mp/1oh7Y0q

Empire Earth 3 is a good strategy game. It will make you travel to ancient times to discover new land and conquer it while you travel whole world as you play.
It's the best game.

I believe that believers have to work their way up the levels of Scientology (and spend a ton of money in the process) to "officially" be told the story of their religion. They may feel that they can't say anything about it even if they have been told because it is a church "secret." And I do suspect that they know that others will find them silly.

That story is supposed to be a secret that only the higher-ups know. Obviously it's been found out, but perhaps they're still clinging to the "secretiveness" of it, or actually don't know or don't believe yet that Scientology actually teaches that.

If Scientologists mentioned that whole Space Opera thing, no-one would believe them and subsequentially give them their money.
