This is pretty strange. Ever since the U.S. began its War on Drugs (not to be confused with the War on Poverty, or the War on Illiteracy, or the War to End all Wars, or the War on Terrorism), penalties for anything having to do with drugs have gotten steeper and steeper. In many instances, first-time drug offenders face life sentences.
So it's very odd that you got a harsher sentence for a crank phone all than someone got for illegal drug possession.
But it makes me wonder whose phone you were using to make the crank calls? Did you use your own phone instead of a pay phone? You deserved to get caught!

It depends on if it was your first offense of not. You also need to take into consideration, if the other person was dealing, taking, or just in possession of drugs.
