If the amnesty bill for illegal aliens that's before the Senate becomes law, it will cost taxpayers over $100 billion over the next 10 years. That figure comes from the Congressional Budget Office. The Senate immigration reform bill comes with a $126 billion price tag. That's a lot of money. The kicker? Congress has no idea how to pay for it. $48 billion of the $126 billion would be mandatory spending. Illegal aliens in the United States would become eligible for taxpayer funded entitlement programs. The cost over the next decade: $24.5 billion in tax refunds through the earned income and child tax credit, $15.4 billion for Medicare and Medicaid, $5.2 billion in Social Security benefits. And $3.7 billion in food stamps and nutrition programs. These costs will only rise over time. Representative Tom Tancredo says the only winners are the corporations. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO)said: "These are all costs that we incur so that we can obtain cheap labor. It's not cheap. It's cheap only to the employer. Believe me, it's not cheap to the taxpayer."

They said 127 billion over the next 10 years and that is only FEDERAL costs. The biggest costs are state and local costs such as education and health care. Los Angeles County alone shelled out $1 billion just last year to illegal immigrant services, not counting state and federal funds to the same people.

Whether it is state or local, it all comes out of our pocket. Worse, the drain is ruining education and services for our own people.

The Senate Bill is a nightmare.

Is this net additional expense? For example the figure you quote for social security. Is that $5.2B more than the additional FICA taxes collected from the newly legal workers? Or is the additional FICA tax greater than the $5.2B? The same question would apply to fed and state taxes. Also what would the revenue be from fines imposed for being here illegally? What would the revenue be from fees payed ti the CIS to process paperwork to get a green card? Some of those fees are currently 2 or 3 hundred dollars. My point is that the figures you quote don't give a complete picture of the actual cost.

You can throw out all the “so-called” facts you want. The fact remains most immigrants come to this country and better themselves. They come and make improvements to themselves, their families, and communities. We here in the United States have valedictorians, college graduates, doctors, lawyers, government representatives, etc., who were immigrants, from one place or another.

My husband and his family were fortunate enough to take advantage of the amnesty program in 1986. They are all successful and productive members of our community. They can’t earn any tax credits, or SS benefits if they don’t work and pay taxes themselves. They put in, before they get back…and that is same for any immigrant who receives those benefits. My husband is the sole provider for our family; he works very hard and earns a very good living for us. What he pays in taxes alone….could support a middle class family (IN CALIFORNIA) for one year.

So yea…you’re right Amnesty it’s not cheap to him as a TAXPAYER…because since he took advantage of it HE’S PAID A LOT OF MONEY!!!!

Hexador04 – You seem to forget about all of the lazy US citizens who sit on their butts all day and collect welfare…..citizens of all races!! Everyone talks about how “they” should work and better “their” country …shouldn’t we expect that same thing of our own citizens.

Yes It is very expensive. How expensive would it be to just send everyone away? Turn our backs on children who need health care and education, let them just run the streets. (They will be in the USA whether or not we give them amnesty) In the long run wont this be more expensive? Our prisons are at capacity now.

No one is offering Amnesty. They are offering a program where an undocumented immigrant can earn their documents.

It will be the same if they offer programs to become legal, then they will be able to get on welfare, so it doesn't matter which way it goes. either way they will be eligible.
