My Thai nickname is "Mah" which means dog. It is partially a joke and partially a revering name.

All Thai's have a nickname and many are after some type of animal, like cat, mouse, pig, snake but no one is named dog so it is unique.

In the old days, lovers and close friends would refer to each other as dog. So, it is kind of an old tradition.

Mine is Gypsy. It has been for so long that I don't usually even notice, or respond, when someone calls me by my real name.

(That usually happens when an elderly relative rings, or stops by for a visit, & I end up blinking at them while wondering if they're talking to me. lol)
