First some background: I've had panic attacks before when my dad died 2 years ago. 2 months ago I've lost my dog of 12 years. I no longer get panic attacks because I now know how to recognize what is happening and i calm myself down. But I do get in states where everything just feels "off" or "weird" and I almost feel detached from myself. When it happens I force myself to go do something else and it passes and I get back to being fine. I've seen my regular doctor and he says it's just anxiety. I was prescribed some lorazapam as a sedative to take as needed, which I haven't touched yet.

I guess I just want to know if people feel like that sometimes too... Like this "weird" feeling is sometimes like a feeling of impending doom, or sometimes I'll just feel really down and cry..other times it just passes really fast.

I had about 2-3 weeks of being perfect and without any symptoms, and now it's come back a bit.

Anything I can do? Is it normal?

I used to have that too...
its panic disorder, and the best way to deal with it... is by not having to deal with it.
I remember how stressed I was most of the time just from panick attacks... I couldnt enjoy anything and was always worried, etc.... Dr. first prescribed Paxil 20mg a day.
That was it... the end of it. took about 1.5 weeks to kick in.... now im on Cymbalta, which has less side effects and comes in lower dosage.... panic is a thing of the ancient past for me.... The best thing that could have happened....

Your anxiety is well justified. Going through those heavy loses will be hard to deal with even for an adult. You're still dealing with live memories and feelings of the relationship with you pup. Looking around will remind you about him/her, so it's normal that you're still having reoccurences of anxiety or depression, "feeling off or weird."
Taking meds is only a temporary thing to help you get over a temporary situation. Eventhough, this feeling might seem that will last forever, it will pass.
I felt that as well, when my dog was stolen the beach, but it passed and I got over it. Your dad is a different situation, you just have to have his image, good memories and love with you and learn to incorporate them as you go through life and always make him proud.
As soon as you can try to get a puppy, not to "replace" him/her, that will never happen but to pass your love to another little creature, for your own mental health.

I have some anxiety issues, too, and I must say you are a very impressive case--keeping yourself busy, calming yourself down, etc. etc. It's normal, sometimes we ALL feel detached from ourselves, even those without the anxiety. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it's really hindering your lifestyle (i.e. you can't do the normal everyday things you used to be able to). And don't be afraid to take the meds when you feel like it--it's what helps sometimes. :)

Sounds like you would benefit from an antidepressant such as Effexor that works on anxiety as well as depression. I was in a similar ordeal like yours, & it really helped me. Don't be afraid to take the lorazepam, it will help calm you down but makes you sleepy. That was a good choice of drugs your Dr. prescribed you, there is no buzz associated with it, hence a low risk for misuse. Don't drink when you take them. you ought to try one after supper to see how it effects you. Good Luck & hope it helps!

time to see a doctor... if you've not already.

this could also be a chemical imbalance issue to.

medications, changes in diet and lifestyle may help improve your situation also.

see a doctor.

i've had a mild form of what you're talking about.. first of all i had malignant hypertension and a serious mineral issue. they fixed it with medications and a new diet plan.

i'm soooooo VERY grateful for that opportunity.

try it you can't lose anything by doing it.

good luck too.

also talk to the doctor all about this and other things that may have something to do with your problem. the more information the better for them to help you.

i too suffer from panic attacks, usually associated with social anxiety. i am perscribed to take one 1mg xanax per day and I do. Panic attacks still happen, tho not as frequently.

All you can do is remove yourself from the stressful situation, practice breathing techniques, and divert your attention to something else.

You just described the way I felt till he put me on Zoloft, its a chemical imbalance. I went through my mom being murdered, my nephew drowning, and then the symptoms you described. With Zoloft I am actually normal.
I wish you the best of luck, God Bless You!

i would get a complete physical. get checked for seizure activity. i've suffered from panic attacks. once you are diagnosed with panic disorder, people tend to assume that every complaint that you have is panic related. rule out every thing else first. have you checked out your diet? dairy, salt, caffiene, choclate all things to monitor and limit your intake.
