Yes!! Maintain your mouth clean (brushing with Listerine) after everey meal as canker sores are caused by bacteria. Eat yogurt so that the yogurt flora can wipe out those bacteria that can cause canker sores. Reduce you stress level. Canker sores may appear when you have your periods. Last, take Niacin (watch out for the "flushing", ask the pharmacist) regularly. Best wishes!!

I've had those things all my life and finally I found something that works. Its called "Abreva" and is sold over the counter in drug stores. The downside is it tends to dry them up so well that the lip is sore for a while, but you can go back to wearing lipstick or use some Chapstick to relieve that problem. I used to use Blistex but it didn't work even half as well as this stuff.

There are some great medicines, but unfortunately it's more like seven days without treatment, a week with treatment.
Some medicines will help it clear faster. The trick is starting to use the medication at the very first tingle. Even if it's a false alarm, it's better than growing another one of those nasty things.

My pharmacist gave me this tip....it really works!!!!!

Mix one part liquid antacid (such as maloxx or mylanta) and one part liquid children's benadryl. Use this as a rinse as often as you like (spit it out). It has a numbing affect and it helps them heal!!

I get lots of them and now I actually have a prescription for something called "magic mouthwash". The above are two of the ingredients in the prescription!!

Since they are usually caused by some small bacteria, I find that the best way to get rid of them, or to start getting rid of them, is to gargle with some salt-water. (regular salt)

Salt will kill the germs that are causing it (and also the pain)

Listerine would help too, but salt is usually cheap/free.
