An earlier question I posed an aswer cited that Jesus is/was male, therefore God is male. But the concept of holy Trinity indicates God is "Father", Jesus ("Son") and Holy Spirit. Two of those entities are without gender, so why attribute God solely as male? Is it because Jesus referred to God as "Father?"

Kitty, it is not a debate. If you are not a believer and do not care, then don't feel a need to answer. I am curious as to people who see the two names/beings/concepts as synonymous or not.

I've learned that the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit, reflect three different ways God makes himself known. God the Father, the transcendent, "wholly other" creator of the universe. God the Son, Jesus Christ, who came to reveal God, to redeem us from our sins and to reconcile us witht he Father and with each other. And, God the Holy Spirit, the indwelling Spirit who calls us to faith and regenerates and sanctifies us. The trinity, or tri-unity or three-ness of God, is like sound. God the Father is source or speaker, Jesus is the Word spoken, and the Holy Spirit is the way God continues to speak.

This is a common question that had me lost before too. I am catholic so the holy trinity is second nature. It consist of Jesus, "the father", and the Holy Spirit. A religious figure would tell you that all three of these forces come together to form a unit of GOD. Most folks feel "the father" IS God. Holy trinity states otherwise as 3 make up 1. Even though the jesus was a representation of God, just because he was male doesn't mean he is male. Its his soul that came, without being gender based. However, his physical form was male on earth. The say "the father" because we all know who his mother was, Virgin Mary. His father was unknown so he called the "supreme being and creator" his Father. Its still not know if he is male. And the Holy spirit has been in different figures even the dove when trying to find land after nights and nights of rain. But still doesn't make "the bird" our supreme being nor God. God does not equal Jesus, but he is a part of God, in my religion. He is the son of the father, a prophet/missionary, and our savior. The father created the world and has ultimate power. The Holy spirit is a part of the world as it was said to be a ghost before, behind most miracles and spirtual feelings. The gender of the supreme being is probably uncomparable to the living things on earth. Look at God as a soul, a power, and a great force rather than a human being. Most people search for answers the eyes or logic can not explain, keep faith and understand the basis in the meaning of life. God Bless and be good!

Jesus is considered to be "God" since he is the son, but I don't think that neccaceraily means God is male. I believe that God, an all powerful being, who is a god, could be anything. Some want to believe he's male, while other's differ. It's an on going question that will never be answered until you go to heaven, but then you can't tell others what is true. People don't really look for angels anymore.

No no no no no. I had this exact debate with a minister, although I've always known that Jesus was a historical figure and God is the "parent" of us all. The words "Holy Spirit" are feminine in the original language it was translated from. So you have the father, god, the creator; the Holy Spirit, through which he works on the physical level - the mother (Mother Earth); and the result, we humans, the Child. So simple.

The bible clearly lets us know that Jesus is not Jehovah god. First of all, Jehovah God is our creator. Revelation 4: 11 says: “You are worthy, Jehovah, even our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they existed and were created.” Also, He is without beginning or end, and he is almighty. Psalms 90: 2 tells us: "Before the mountains themselves were born, or you proceeded to bring forth as with labor pains the earth and the productive land, even from time indefinite to time indefinite you are God."

Jesus, on the other hand, had a beginning. Colossians 1: 15, 16 says: "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him."

Referring to God as his Father, Jesus said: “The Father is greater than I am (John 14: 28)." Jesus also explained that there were some things neither he nor the angels knew but that were known only by his Father (Mark 13:32- “Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father.")

Moreover, Jesus prayed to his Father: “Let, not my will, but yours take place (Luke 22: 42)." To whom was Jesus praying if not to a superior Personage? Furthermore, it was God who resurrected Jesus from the dead, not Jesus himself. (Acts 2:32) Obviously, the Father and the Son were not equal before Jesus came to the earth or during his earthly life. What about after Jesus’ resurrection to heaven? First Corinthians 11:3 states: “The head of the Christ is God.” In fact, the Son will always be in subjection to God. (1 Corinthians 15:28) The Scriptures therefore show that Jesus is not God Almighty. Instead, he is God’s Son.

The Trinity is three in one - Jesus was entirely God but also fully flesh complete with all the frailties common to man.

Men and women were created in the image of God. I believe he has characteristics of both. There are verses that describe God in a more feminine nuturing manner and there are verses that depict Him as a very masculine Father. They all speak to the characteristics that define - not to any specific gender.

Jesus was the physical manifestation of God on earth so He was subject to human rules like taking on a gender. What would be the point of God having a gender? Since He's the only God who is he going to mate with?

God is not Jesus. Consider the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Jesus was baptized, and God spoke from heaven, saying, this is my Son, in whom I am well pleased, then the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove fluttered down and rested on Jesus' shoulder. That shows the Trinity in three different forms there. There are three separate dieties but of one accord.

I would argue that describing God as male is to serve two primary purposes: to attempt a description of the role in which He plays (Father, protector, rock, etc), and is more social where the audience of the day responded best to a male God and we as people need to address God with a gender designation. Ultimately, as being all-powerful, all-knowing, all-compassionate, and well, all-God, He is beyond gender. Attributes which He displays are both male and female. But, addressing God as male serves the purposes explored above.

To me, God is God, the first part of the trinity. Jesus is his son, the second part of the trinity. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the trinity.

They are separate but connected too. Very complicated, but no, God does not equal Jesus to me.

NO I believe Jesus was(is) a noble and great prophet sent by God to mankind to show man and lead man to the worship of God. I love Jesus just as much or more than any Christian does, but NO I do not believe he is God. I believe God has no need for a wife or son or daughter. God is w/ out needs. He needs no sleep, food etc... To say he has a son is to liken him or lessen his status. God willed Jesus to be in Mary's womb. God is not 3.Father,son, holy spirit. God is 1 and we are all his creations, including Jesus.
I am the lord your God, there shall be no God beside me.
Jesus never said he was God!
