Up until the '90s Carl's Jr. fast food restaurant had these awesome french fries that were soft with a crinkle surface. Why did they change it to boring stale fries? And where can I get the old Carl's Jr. french fries?

They were called Frispos. They were essentialy mashed potato dried and formed into a paste (instant potatoes). They where pressed through a machine (like those old play-dough toys that would squeeze out shapes) and was formed into tiny french fry forms and then fried. Much like Pringles crisps. They would grow from the cooking process into standard french-fry size. It disappeared due to being less cost-effective, and took entirely too much time to prepare for our now overwhelming demand from fast-food restaurants that require quick turn-around on food orders. I have no idea if any other restaurants still serve Frispos.

I Don't really have an answer for you, but I know from a report I did in the 1980's that their original fries were made from dehydrated potatoes. Maybe you could find a recipe to make them.

You know I forgot about that because I don't go there very often. Too expensive. Back in the day I used to go there because of the fries.
