Your G.I. Bill is only good for 10 years after your end of service date, that is the date your contract is up, not when you enter inactive ready reserve. My contract is from 09/01/99 - 09/01/07, so when I went on IRR in 03' my GI Bill is good till 09/01/17. Hope it helps.
Illinois has a Illinois Veterans Grant that is good till the day I die that I can use at any Illinois state and federally funded college, and if I don't use it my kids can, see if your state has a similar veterans grant you can use. Most states try and accommodate veterans and their education after service but you gotta do the investigating.

Im in the guard. I've heard rumors that they have changed the rules, before you had 10 years to use the GI Bill after your ETS. but what I am hearing now is if you do not have the active duty GI Bill, you will lose it if you dont re-enlist. I am currently in The IRR and I would rather pay for school then re-enlist. but, i am checking to see if it is a rumor or not

as long as you didn't use it , you always can use your GI Bill. You paid for it while you was in, so you can use it when your ready.
