I hate spam. For those of you who don't know yet, it's one of those stupid things that play the song very softly, so you turn up your volume, then makes an extremely loud noise and shows a "scary" face. It's just spam.

No. This is a well researched phenomenon in the psychological field. There has never been an effect correlated, let alone found to be causal, in any way.

Most people cannot hear the 'words' in the reversed music until someone else points out what words to expect. This priming effect invalidates the effect. They here what they are expecting to hear. If you play a song backwards but don't know what you are listening for, chances are, you won't find anything.

Further tests included using white noise generators to create truly random noise. Of course, there were no words in this at all. However, certain clips that one person claimed to hear voices in would be saved and played for others. Most people could not hear the words -- but when prompted with what words to listen for, almost all heard the words.

In short -- no, this is just a nifty little facet of the human brain being a good little pattern finder, nothing more.

(For the record, only one band in the USA has ever admitted to using backwards masking intentionally in a song -- though I would have to get with my experimental psychology professor again and get him to remind me which one it was. Believe it was one from the 60's or 70's, it was certainly before my time)

Salam (Peace)!
Well, that was scary! But yes that is true. Islamic view on this is that first of all in Islam music is forbidden because of the same reason and more. Yes, if you listen to music backward you can hear the devils words. But in order for you to understand that, you cannot be a person who listens to music because that person cannot understand due to their obsession or likeness to music. I'm glad you asked this question because it is difficult to explain this islamic point to people.
I hope you understood.
Take care!

it is one of those popular myths that has ensured the sale of certain rock albums over the years, because it is rumored that you will hear the devil if a certain track is played backwards.

If you are open to suggestion then you will hear it.
