Never close an account. This lowers your credit score, since part of your score is based on how much credit you have available. If you have a $0 balance, that is good. If you have a negative mark (late yellow, or red) because of this $0, you will need to contact that creditor and ask to have it removed. Make sure you have them send you a letter stating that they are going to remove the negative mark, though.

If you're talking about something that was past due and then you eventually paid it off and it has a balance of $0, it is correct and thus is not supposed to be removed-- However, sometimes if you contest them the accounts are just like "Eh! whatever" and delete them, rather then put all the research into it to see if they are correct. So try that. PUll all 3 reports to get the exact dates, company names, account #, etc, and then do an investigation.

It will not be removed from your credit report but you can close the account. Once you have done this it will appear as closed instead of a $0 balance.

Contact the credit bureau and dispute. I had student loans that showed a past due balance of $0. I complained, it was removed from my credit.

You wouldn't need to remove a 0 balance. Good credit stays on indefinatly, bad credit stays on 7 years, bankruptcy 10 years. You could dispute the report, if they don't verify that it is correct, it will be removed.

its actually good to show accounst w/ a zero balance past due on your credit score. when creditors go and look at your credit they will see you have had accounts before and paid them off. that is excellent to them.

$0 is a good thing...it means that NOTHING is past due.
