Charles Manson was convicted before the death penalty. He's convicted for life.
"does anyone really get fried on death row?"
Go ask the ones in Texas. They executed 40 last year.

Manson is not on death row! Got life in prison after death penalty was overturned in the 70's!

Due process in appeals. If you were so convicted, you'd want that option also.
BTW, Manson is serving life, and every few years applies for (and so far has been denied) parole.

because liberals have fought for the prisoners to have numerous opportunities to appeal, this bumps up the cost to kill any one person, making the economic argument of "its cheaper to just put someone to death than house them for life" obsolete.

Because of liberal, hand-wringing Dems and groups like the ACLU who have over the years afforded criminals more rights than victims of those criminals.
