i went to hair school and most of it depends on the type of hair you have, your ethnicity, and what you have done chemically to your hair... I will tell you that PANTENE shampoos and conditioners are THE WORST for your hair and you should use at least salon shampoo Redken and Kiwi are my favorite and really not expensive, its worth the cost so many store brand shampoos are waxed based and may intially make your hair shine but it doesnt last... Conditioners vary depending on your hair but using a deep treatment once a week helps with the split ends and the dryness... I suggest figuring what hair type you have finding a local salon or for that matter even a hair cuttery and asking them what they suggest... they all had to go to cosmetology school and they all have the same license so a fancy salon wont give you any better information on products

well you'll laugh but! 5 fruits and veggies a day... (raw or steamed properly so the minerals are activated) :D i know that's silly but it works.
also, types of fish.. (not processed or breaded now ick) fresh fish or frozen that's from fresh.. steam, grill (with some lemon) so on.. bake. never fry.. that's too greasy and your hair will dredlock. (take my word for it!)
drinking enough fluids a day also helps.
washing your hair in water that isn't overtreated (i know good luck on that one!) but if you can't do that... then shampoos that work with your hair.. every do any sampling? try one then another?
my suggestion for now would be the pantene line.. along with their conditioners.
they cure my hair of the mixed race syndrom. my hair is course, mean and thick.
brushing with a natural brush is good. don't do that 100 strokes crap that's bad for the hair, it'll break it and fray it.
also never comb or brush your hair when it's wet. big no no no!
scalp stimulation is great also.. that takes some time but you won't mind because it feels good.
if that still don't please you in your quest.. go to a professional.. maybe you need a new cut.. to work with your hair and it's grain, texture and condition that it's having now.. hair does change over time with diet, age, conditions around you, all that.
and your hair isn't dead.. ok don't let them tell you that crap either.
these are just some of many suggestions.
oh there's time if you use conditioners, additives in your hair to style it and tame it.. sometimes it's a good idea to just wash and go.. let the hair get some breathability in it again by just using a gentle shampoo and nothing else.
hair will get dull and 'dead' looking if you use alot of additives in your hair over time.
good luck.

You could use milk, honey, and eggs. Leave it set on your hair for 20-30 minutes. Then rinse with cold water, so it seals the pores of your hair. Then use lots of conditioner. You'll also want a trim about every 6 weeks. Hope this helps.

A safe and inexpensive treatment is mayonaise. It's got the same basic ingrediants as a hot oil treatment witout the synthetic materials. Leave it on for about 30 min. then wash your hair regularly with shampoo and conditioner. I use Aussie.

Use an anit frizz or shine serum after you blow dry or flat iron or whatever it is that you do.
It seals the ends and makes your hair shiny. Just use a drop, a little goes a long way and too much makes it look greasy.

Sallys has a product in a maroon colored tube called Straight Shot, it's a straightening balm. It makes the hair feel just like silk.

Use a good quality shampoo. Pick a type that works best for your hair type. If you use heat products such as a blow dryer, flat iron, etc. make sure to use a heat protector or leave in conditioner.
