Tell them that you are disabled and can afford to pay X-amount at this time. Tell them that you insist the harrassing phone calls stop because it is having a detrimental effect on your family. If that won't stop it, find out who you can report them to, like a credit bureau.

Try and work out some kind of payment plan. www.incharge.org is a non profit debt relief company that helps people mangage their bills and may be able to make arrangements with the collectors on your behalf. If you can't pay those then you may have to file bankruptcy. Collectors cannot call you after filing bankruptcy. Bankruptcy will affect your credit for up to 10 years so really think about it before you file.

If you truly have no funds and collectors are calling, it would be reasonable to file for bankruptcy. Once the order of bankruptcy is filed and approved, the peple you owe will be contacted, and collection efforts will cease.

If they are a third party debt collector (meaning your loan is with someone else and they are just collecting for the ppl you have your loan with) they would fall under the fair debt collections act which is a federal law that protects you.
1/ notify them in writing (certified letter) that you are only to be contacted in writing by them. By law, they then cannot call you. The only thing is, if you decide not to respond to their letters, they can take you to court, so just be careful
2/ it's illegal for them to call your family - tell your family to advise them they will sue them for harrassment if they don't stop calling them. I guarantee the calls will stop.

It is my understanding that if you make any type of effort, they have to leave you alone. Even if it is $10 every two weeks or even every month. Let the creditor know what you plan to pay and how often.

You will need to contact an attorney and file for bankrupt, or you can make arrangements to make your payments and keep with the plan to your creditors.

file for bankruptcy then they will have to stop. but this will ruin your credit and I think you will have to pay it off but in small amounts as much as you can afford to pay after living expenses.
