It's comparable to Jesus and his sacrifices since he is Almighty God but then I remember about Kryptonite and then I remember that one of these two stories is fiction. Now I can't remember which one they are both so unbelievable!

Even if he were physically invulnerable (he's not), there are LOTS of ways to hurt someone other than physically.
One of them is exploited rather frequently in Superman stories - emotional pain. He likes lots of other people, people who aren't even vaguely invulnerable, and who seem to have knacks for getting into trouble. Hurting or killing one of Superman's friends is certainly a good way to subject him to suffering, if you're a super-villain.
Not to mention the work aspect of heroism. That character doesn't HAVE to be a hero. He could do anything he likes, really. But he chooses to. This is a sacrifice - of time, social inconvenience, and and number of risks he wouldn't have to face if he just stayed at home and became a farmer. So in this repect he is a hero as well.
Hope that helps! Be a hero yourself - answer questions!

Superman is a superhero, but not because he braves life-threatening dangers (though even when the bad guy has Kryptonite he doesn't hesitate.) He is a superhero because he excepts responsibility for so many people. He may be invulnerable, but he can't be everywhere at once, and he can't stop people from dying. By taking on the responsibility that he does, he takes the risk of failing, which can be as devastating as a physical injury. Superman takes the cares of the world on his shoulders, and never complains-- he is a superhero.

Muscles are useless when you have to decide to save a baby or to stop a schoolbus from crashing at the other side of the city.
Besides, superman has limits, even though the writer never holds true to a specific.
