People always get their indoor cats declawed, that's horrible. I want to know why people do this. Please tell me why.

I don't know why people get their cats declawed. The only thing that I could think of is that they think that it will keep the cat off furniture and from destroying couches and chairs. I have 3 indoor cats (1 that lives with me and 2 that live with my parents) and none of them are declawed.

It's very painful for the cats when they are declawed. It is like ripping the nails out of a human. I would never declaw my cats. I wouldn't want to put them through that kind of pain. On top of that, if they were to accidentally get out of the house they wouldn't be able to defend themselves or be able to climb trees to hopefully reach some kind of safety.

I rescued a declawed cat from her previous owner. I asked why he declawed her, was she mean or prone to attacking people? . He said no, it was because he didnt want his expensive leather furniture ruined (This guy was a total a**hole, someone like him should never be allowed to take care of animal ever again)

Because vets will do it and it represents $$$$$$$$ for the vets. In every other country in the "civilized" world this operation is illegal and no vet can perform it.

I would not patronize any vets who would perform this operation. Many American vets won't do it anymore or they at least do some counseling with their clients about the problems a clawed cat may have and try to help the clients find other ways to tackle the problems.

People do it so they dont claw up furniture, carpet, and doorways. I have a cat thats ruined my doors in a rental house, but I wont get his claws out because surgery can go wrong and do somthing to the cats feet. And plus its not really humane.

Oh particular! each and all of the time lol, it makes me bounce up with fright and make an apology (cats call) and then I comprehend it rather is in basic terms between the cats rubber balls that i'm stepping on. it is so humorous while that occurs! lol

I don't know either...it's not natural or humane in my op ion..people who do that don't think or care enough about how the animal feels about it...How would they feel if somebody ripped their nails out permanently???

I really don't get it myself. To me it's cruel and unusual punishment. What if kitty were to accidentally get out...poor thing would be defenseless.
