Easy: if you believe in the Spirit of God, then you're self-delusional.

The Spirit of God vs. "self-delusion"...

Well, I can describe my experience with the Spirit/Voice of God. God "talks" to me, just not in the conventional sense. When God wants/asks/tells me to do something, it manifests as an insistent, urging feeling, & all I can think about is what that feeling is telling me to do. It's almost NEVER the "popular," "cool," "olitically correct," (etc, etc.) thing to do, but it is ALWAYS good or benefitial or helpful to someone else in some way.
I would be more comfortable not doing it, but it is GOOD, so why should I stay comfortable instead of doing something good?

At the very least, I know it's not satan.

Peace!

If you're serious, then listen: There is no outright conversation with God. He isn't going to come inside your head and start a conversation, so if you start hearing voices and are under the assumption those voices are God's attempt at talking to you personally, then I'd say there is a mental health issue. Understand? That's how you will know the difference; God isn't going to come to you as an actual voice in your head as if you are hearing someone talking. Thoughts are what we go by, not voices. Those days of a voice coming from a burning bush are gone.

Okay, listen really closely.
I was about to kill myself. Jesus stopped me literally at the last second. He saved my life. By all human laws or physics, I should be dead. There are no human laws in which I should be alive. Jesus saved me, and he also forgave me for my sins. So I do not believe in man-made religion. I know Christ is alive! I go to a non-denominational Church, and read God's perfect Word. I am filled with the Holy Spirit, which guides my Life everyday.
I used to get drunk everyday. I hated my life!
I live in a beautiful city, near the beach, I have many, many friend's, and I love my Life!!!
Even though this is not the answer you were looking for.

Yes, The Spirit of God will only bring peace and clarity. If there is any confusion or negative feelings, it is not of God. Besides the enemy will tell you opposite of whatever God would tell you. So listen and hear --is what you hear God's voice? What is it telling you? I think you can discern, if you listen with your heart, and have the Spirit in you.

The self-delusion comes when you try to make the spirit of God comes and some people do it repeatively.

The spirit of God comes when your focus and your faith is pure.

There IS no difference. Any idea of the Spirit of God IS self-delusion.

How do you know the difference between acting like a fool and actually "being" a fool?

Psalm 53:1
The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their ways are vile
