He's still young and needs that extra sleep -- you're right. It's possibly something else that is making him wake up. It could be anything from a gas bubble, to an ear ache, to constipation, to teething pain.
As a mom of four I think the first culprit you should rule out is teething pain. Try to soothe him back to sleep or let him soothe himself, whatever works for you.
Good luck

It seems like it is so easy for kids to get off routine once it happens a time or two in a row. I would give him about 15 minutes or so to get back to sleep. If that doesn't work you could get him up and try putting him back down after an hour or so if he is still cranky. It will not hurt him at all to cry a little. He still needs a good two hour nap at this age. My littlest son was taking two 2 hour naps at 7 months. All kids are different but they seem so much happier after a good nap!

Maybe teething? My son took 2 naps up until 2 months ago. The first one was 2 hours long, the sencond one was 45. He would cry after he woke up because 45 minutes isn't long enough. I would say let him cry for no longer than 10 minutes. If he dosen't go back to sleep after 10 get him up.

Whoa. This is a common problem often fixed.Since he's growing up he is going to take that little stay up alot trait. That mostly all babys inherit sooner or later. But he is young and 2 hour naps seem a little too much.Maybe if you cut down the time it won't seem so bad for him.I mean after all he isn't even 1 yet.But what I simply mean is that babies his age take things in small portions. In the end it may seem like alot but while you gave them their little something it was very small. So just take a nap 1 hour and then take another nap another 1 hour.He will get the same amount of rest in the end.But he will finally get his time to play and relax. It works out for the both of you.

You could try splitting his nap up into two naps. As long as he isn't hsyterical, it should be ok to let him cry himself back to sleep. Otherwise, I suggest a nice car ride.

He might have an ear infection. I had one that never ran fever with the worst ear infections. She never even cried but would pull at her ear.
