My daughter wanted one when we redid her room. It's still up. I think part of the trick is to secure it in such a way that it is not really confining. You don't want it to make your kid feel trapped. Much more importantly, it must not be and impediment to an emergency exit, like during a fire. If you have to, trim the edges so that when it hangs, it is too short for the child to roll onto or to be tucked under the mattress.

My daughter had one.. very pretty.. but the CATS loved attacking it.. so the net tore easily.. I replaced it once.. but they DID it again.. it was just a hanging net they could climb..
I think they are very whimsical.. and would do it again :D But the cats own this place.. so the canopy net(s) had to go.
Here's a pic from last year when my daughter had it in her room.. you can actually see the net pulled back and the cats.. they LOVED that bed with that net!

This is "Granny" I had one above my bed. My grandchildren loved it!!! They loved sitting inside the netting and just chatting, sleeping there was a princess's bed..sure they pulled and tugged on it here and there but never causing any real damage. Besides some are very inexpensive and it'd be worth that amount of happiness!!!

My Daughter wanted one, so, the wife picked one up cheap, and I had to install it...
I did, and she always had it at the top of her bed, or somewhere pushed off to the side!
Finally she asked me to take it down, as it "got in her rode"...sheesh! (I tried to talk her out of it in the first place, but she saw something in a movie with a fairy princess having one of them on her bed)...
I wish you well..
