Because these people are exceptions to the practicing millions of atheists. It's like why vegetarians don't bring up Hitler, who was kind to animals but responsible for many heinous acts against humans. OR why Christians don't expound any more on the Crusades or the Inquisition. Movements that speak to violent intolerance and prejudice.
You can't villify entire groups just because a few individuals of the same mindset are notorious thugs. Arguably hundreds of thousands of people are dead due to George Bush's actions, but I'm not going to characterize Christians or Republicans as murderous, corporate shills.....tempting as it is.
BTW, slavery ended 140 years ago....stop basing your arguments on Wikipedia while sniffing glue.

LOL. I'm not an atheist, but I had to respond to this question because it's so dumb. The crusades were about christianity. Joseph Stallin wasn't crusading for atheism. Same with Mao. Man, if you want to pick an argument, learn how to talk about your topic.

There is absolutely no comparison between any in the Atheist community and the death of billions in the name of a benevolent, all powerful, loving God. Christians have no standing at all, nor can they defend the theistic Holocaust as anything other than a simple case of monotheistic genocide. At least Mao and Stalin were pure in their intent, we know they killed in those cases for a fascist cause, not in the name of some deity because others didn't believe in the same god. There is no excuse for killing under any circumstance, least of all in the name of god.

The issue is missed. The Crusades were, in part, motivated by religion. Joseph Stalin and Mao might have been athiest, and they did target religious believers, but they were mass murderers perfectly happy to kill athiests and other dissidents or threats.
I don't hear Christians bringing up the Crusades in conversation (although my kids' school is nicknamed Crusaders!)

ok.. now.. which wire do I cut to disarm this question? oh well...
I believe that throughout history there have been monsterous people who have killed others in the name of religion... but that still does not make it a religious act unless the religion itself calls for the action to be taken...
for instance... there was a cult in California that believed that they needed to commit suicide at a specific date and time... and they did it (so we don't have to deal with them anymore)... so that was a religious act of murder in my opinion...
but some religious leader calling for the deaths of anyone who is not of that religion... is not religious action for most religions because they don't want innocents killed.. (there are exceptions)...
I believe that during the "Holy Wars" of the past.. like Crusades and before... the Christians totally destroyed the Mosques and other religious buildings in cities while the Muslims preserved the religious buildings.. modifying them for thier own religous services.

Neither of these, and nobody for that matter, murdered in the name of atheism, because atheism, unlike religions, is not an organised group of people expected to act in the same way. Atheists don't have an "Atheist Organisation" that tells them what to do and what not to do. Atheists are free to act as they want, unlike believers, who are represented by a church they have freely chosen for their representation.
I'm not blaming the Church for Hitler, who was a believer, but whose murders weren't in the name of the Church. Stalin and Mao are not "my family". They're people who (you say) were atheists, but their action was not made in the name of their religious convictions.

While there certainly were some non-religious wars, and athiest leaders who were responsible for the deaths of many people,
I don't know of any war promoted by an athiest that killed people in the name of athiesm.
There have, however, been a preposterous number of people murdered in the world... "in the name of god."
I'm not saying that religion is bad... but is sure has been used in a bad way.

How about those extreme muslims over there in the Middle East?
They have murdered millions of people between themselves and in many other countries. They don't just do it in their own countries, no, they send that **** over here to America and to Europe.
Then there are the black people in Africa killing each other for diamonds. Then there are the militia in Africa killing their people.
Point: Everyone kills everyone. It's just a vicious cycle. It's just that the crusaders were better than everyone so they are worshipped. That's why.

What a lack of cognitive ability, all of those that you mention were christians killing in the name of christianity. Go back and reread some objective material, you might learn the truth.
Your thoughts are ignoble. Don appearently needs to read the same material!
