A "pleasing" abstract work will display the same elements of design that are present in any other "pleasing" piece of art:
Good balance and composition, good execution of technique, harmonious colour scheme, artistic use of pattern and/or texture, good use of value changes, and movement that keeps your eye travelling within the image. There's nothing "random" about a good abstract painting.
Great abstract art is more than just decorative - it evokes an emotion (not always pleasing) in the viewer, and keeps them entertained within its boundaries.

I think it would be some semblance of order in the painting. A flow of colors that go well together and complement each other. If I look at a painting , whether it be abstract or not, and it speaks chaos, your eye does not know where to rest and it brings on a sense of confusion there is nothing appealing about that. It is like music- the difference between a symphony of instuments playing each their separate piece but blending well together and a 2 year old banging together a bunch of pots and pans.

An abstract allows the viewer to decide what he or she sees and how it relates to them. It gives you the freedom to appreciate things without being "told" what you see.

Pleasing is an unusual choice for an adjective to describe the effects of art on people.
Here is a link to some of my abstracts:

Tell me if they are pleasing to you?
I suppose if I found some artist's work to be thought-provoking, original, interesting, innovative, full of energy and life, witty, compelling, etc., it would also be pleasing.
