Most people donate, I believe because they would like to feel they are part of making a difference. They would like to do something meaningful and they have compassion. I love people with the courage to risk and donate. It makes the world's difference in my part of the world to so many :)
I also understand why many are disillusioned and my honest recommendation would be - Visit the cause you wish to support and meet the manager of the funds. Meet the beneficiaries and then decide before you declare that all donations go bad.

well depending on where the money is donated that changes things donating to a homeless shelter has a direct effect it helps a man or woman with a hot meal and a place to stay, which can help a community.
donating to the American Cancer Society may help with funding research for a cure for a type of cancer or fund a support program for those with cancer or family members caring for someone with cancer which can be devastating to both emotionally. I donate to ACS because I have lost friends and family to cancer and they have a goal/dream that in my lifetime we could see the cure.
I want that I don't want to continue to see such suffering from cancer.
I also volunteer and donate my time so that the organization has my help to operate.
if the ACS achieves their goal it will have a global effect.

I always donate. I feel like a smuck not to. I don't have much but I appreciate what I am blessed with. And why not share with those less fortunate. I do not give to BS causes like election funds. But i fully support Breast Cancer awareness, Domestic Victims, Homeless, food banks, and Salvation army.

some people donate to places that help people get on there feet.
I think its better to do this:
see a homeless person, go to wendy's, pick up a meal and give em food.
I did that once.
OR:
see a homeless person, go to starbucks, pick up a hot chocolate (in winter or fall) or an iced caramel latte (summer or spring).
I did that one too.
because: when you give a poor person money, (like in chicago)
if a homeless person gets enough money to buy somethin, theyll go in the store, but the workers keep them out, so they go to the local liquor store or some drug dealer on the streets and numb themselves up for the night.
Drugs or food...
hmm.

It's all about karma...people donate because it makes them feel better about themselves and the world (because they are making a difference in someone else's lives), and who knows when you'll need the same thing in return?

To help others out. You just need to make sure who you are donating to to make sure that the money goes where it is supposed to go.

People with money are needed for many volunteer related projects. It's a business like anything, and needs the finances to run it.

Try finding a worthy cause and donate money to it, you will be surprised at what your money can do for someone or something.

I donate to anything that has to do with animals. I volunteer my time with local animal shelter to help out with clean up and finding pets homes.
