There are Officers that do this just to pick on other and there are those who are doing their job. It is I must say diffucult to determine which type the Officer especially if you arent and Officer yourself or if you not some type of mind reader. Why do people do a lot of things. Dont be so quick to assume that all Officers need to feel better about themselve and therefore do so by kicking the little man when he's down.

Well first off, if they are dealing with people such as yourself I can almost understand why they would slap you. BUT I DON'T believe you. You should learn how to write or speak which BOTH may apply to you. Why do police need to gain confident by assaulting people? Do you mean confidence?GO back to school and listen to your teachers and DO your homework, which DOES include STUDYING. MAYBE, and this is only maybe, one day you will be smart enough to ask a question here.

First of all, it's because WE allow them and we do not complain and follow-through vigorously enough. They feel that they can intimidate us, like gangsters, and we do nothing to prove them wrong or correct the situation.
The majority of people think that the police can tell us what to do, or that they can enter our homes and that they can tell you what to do or to shut up in your own home or to order you to go to the precinct without an arrest warrant or court order... too many citizens just don't know enough to tell them to leave or for THEM to shut up and listen. Or we accept their rudeness and accept their "tough-guy" attitude even in public.
We forget that they work FOR us, they are are OUR employed.
Also, too many police officers are getting through the screening process with bully-type personalities, or excessive aggressive behavior. Once they have the uniform, they quickly assume a different speech intonation, and immediately they think of themselves as "us against the herd."
WE allow this to happen. We do not complain and hold them accountable so they think they can get away with whatever they do... and of course, the politicians and elected officials are pretty much influenced by unions that are paid to protect not the innocent but those that pay dues to keep them living the "high life" at the expense of the uniformed officers. Why? Because we have not exercised our right to demand accountability!
How many of us is willing to take names and badge numbers and quickly get names of witnesses and immediately file reports and follow up with telephone calls and also contact elected officials to also follow up! We simply take too much "Taurus extretia" excuses and accept their justifications. "It's a tough job out there," they say to excuse their actions. Really? "Then quit and become an orderly in a hospital or go work with Sanitation," that's MY answer!

did you mean "gain confidence..."? And "assaulting"?
What makes you think they do? In 32 years worth of law enforcement in California, I never saw anyone assaulted. I did see many that refused to obey an order by an officer, and have to be controlled and handcuffed. I saw only reasonable force used in 99% of all cases, which are reviewed by the way.

The job usually only attracts a certain kind of person. Specifically males with self-esteem issues. The majority of people consider it too dangerous a job to go with, but the self-esteem issues people see only the gun and think people have to listen to the police. So they join up thinking now with the power of the law and a gun people will listen to them too and then they'll have respect. Unfortunately, police have been abusing their power for so long that no one wants to listen to them and these guys who thought they would be getting respect instead have people cursing them out for abusing their power. This of course only incites the officer to abuse his power more and the cycle continues more and more viciously.
