WE are pcs'ing from yokota ab japan to kadena ab japan and I was just wondering if he would need a no fee passport or would his regular blue american tourist passport work for getting into the country. He has been in and out several times on the mainland and received the sofa stamp, but I was curious if there would be any headaches for a PCS related move. He is only 2 years old. WE also will be going down on the freedom bird and will be landing on Kadena ab.

Nope, no headaches going from Yokota to Kadena. You do already know that Okinawa is just another Japanese prefecture, not another country, right? It's the equivalent of moving from, say, Wiesbaden to Mannheim. There are no additional requirements for documentation. It's like if you were going to Misawa. It's an not like you're leaving Japan for ROK and headed for Osan or Kunsan.

Okinawa is, by the way, beautiful. Even amongst us Japanese it holds a special place in our hearts. Count yourself lucky.

hmmm.. your best bet would be to talk to the peeps in charge of getting your SOFA sponsorship and passports taken care of. I am going to assume that he was born at Yokota(or Yokosuksa if Yokota's hospital doesn't have a maternity ward) which means he wouldn't have a no fee one at all. It is for travel to and from the host country, BUT is only good for the length of the orders.. in other words yours is probably only good until you are due to PCS from Yokota.

Not sure if they can amend your current No fee one or not.. I had to turn mine in when I left Yokosuka in 2003.

He DOESN"T need a fee free passport. His tourist passport would suffice as the on;y difference between one and another is that one is free and the other one is not, but they serve the same purpose.

Good luck
