Marnciduff has the right of it. You cannot spot reduce fat. You can hide things with muscle but you cannot spot reduce.
Here is what I suggest
1) Drink water and only water
2) Eat right, no fast food and lots of good stuff like real fruits, veggies, whole wheat/whole foods, nothing deep fried, some meats and don't forget to mix it up.
3) Cardio work outs such as...aerobics, kickboxing, running/jogging, biking, playing sports, walking, nature hiking, swimming, etc. etc.
4) You can do a core work out a few times, but to lose fat you need cardio.
5) Weight training is ok in addition to cardio.
6) Mix up your training!
Best of luck!

South Beach Diet has a good reputation for reducing stomach fat

fat is lost SLOWLY & EVENLY from all over your body so can't spot reduce.

If you are "top" heavy (thinner legs, heavier tummy, arms, chest) you will have a harder time.

For example I am very bottom heavy (gain weigh almost entirely in my thighs and legs only). Also if I were to lose weight, it would come off my belly first and easily and be nearly impossible to get off my thighs.

So, it's partly genetic.
keep in mind it's 100% calories in/out. crunches or machines or whatever do not reduce stomach fat AT ALL, unless they cause you to burn more calories than you eat.

cheers!

South Beach Diet? The book claims that you loose belly fat first, so I don't know.
