Yes, and No.
Nobody likes a child rapist or a rapist in general. However there are varying degrees of "molesters" from the guy that is watching a porno in the privacy of his own home....without the curtains drawn shut, to actual Touching. Including the guy who is accused but has no financial resources to protect himself from fraudulent charges by an angry ex-wife.
My solution would be to exececute the high profile guys like we see on the tube all the time. In a tmely manner w/i 60 days.
On the lesser guys like porno guy w/ his curtains open, give him the stocks...public embarassment. If it can be proved that the woman brought false charges then give her the same punishment that he would have received. The rest can get placed on the list, maybe require them to where a large M on their clothing.

There should be different registers.... even though they in themselves r useless, and only made to show good people like yourself, how much the police are doing.....
1.Rapists
2. Child rapists (thats anyoune having sex with a girl under 16)
3.. you get the idea
Currently, as some of the other people have said, it takes very little to get on the list, and have your life ruined, by media attention, and 'local heros' showing after the fact, how tough they are.
Easiest way for you to protect your kids is to be a good parent, maybe turn your tv off every once in a while, or even throw it away, and spen your time educating them... they r still, even though some newspapers might mak you think otherwise, alot more likely to get run over, or get pregnant, or die of an overdose... than get raped..... Teach them what you can, and try to remember the politicians just want votes...
I think it might be good to have a register of black people.... the papers say they are dangerous.... possibly a register of members of the bnp.. wouldnt want to live near one of them.... maybe disabled people, you know the deaf ones sometimes have their tvs up loud..

They are and rightly so, I believe.
But unfortunately due to the wide scope of what is considered a sex offender, some people do get listed on there for less serious reasons.
My friend's neighbor was urinating off the side of the road from his car. He is now a registered sex offender because a mother with two younger girls happened to be driving by at the time and was offended, called the cops and pressed charges. He wasn't even facing the road, but still...

Yes, but only if their crime is detailed.
A man who at 18 got his 17 year old girlfriend pregnant does not deserve to be on that list, and yet, in some states he would be. Someone who pees in public while drunk in the middle of the night (and if near a school zone, the charge is even more severe) ends up on that list in some states.
While I think the public needs to be warned of sexual offenders, it's not fair to villify people on that list who have never molested, assaulted, or raped anyone.

No.
For a start, people would act as vigilantes and then get themselves into trouble.
Secondly, the government makes mistakes - remember people who were failling criminal records checks because of errors in the data? What would the position be if someone was wrongly identified as a paedophile and hurt or killed?

i completely agree, however, we had a situation in my town, where a priest was named and blamed. He was put in a house central to 5 schools, both primary and secondary. Many many primary students had to pess his door to get home.(his house fronted a road and didn't have a garden). This priest was taunted for a long time and ended up killing himself. You may say he got what he deserved, maybe he did. But the authorities shouldn't have put him so close to so many kids

i agree with you, someone i used to work with, her husband was a disgusting paedophile and he was banned from our town, but once he was released from prison, she had him secretly living in her house, with her 2 kids! unbelievable. her neighbours reported them to the police and he got removed, they lived 2 minutes walk from a school and he had been back for nearly 2 months, if we had all been aware, he wouldn't have been able to set foot in our town as he would have been reported (tho i would have liked for him to have the **** kicked out of him more) to the police and our children would never have been put in the danger they were!

The information is available in most if not all states. It's called the "Megan's Law" and you can check it out online. If you can't find it online call the local police department and they can direct you to the site. It's good to know who your neighbors are.
