I looove the look of golden retrievers when they're puppies. I'd love to have one, but I don't like big dogs.
A couple of years ago this little girl at work (I teach elementary school) told me that her family has a miniature golden retriever. And, I asked her are you sure it's not a puppy that's going to get bigger later? Then she used her hands to show me the size of the puppy, and said it was 4 years old already.

Now, ever since then I've asked people, breeders included, if they know where I can get a miniature golden retriever and everybody says that they don't exist.

I have never heard of a mini G Rtvr. Check with the AKC American Kennel Club maybe they have a listing of miniature breeds, it is quite possible that there is a breed that looks like a mini G RTVR. Good Luck

There is no such thing as a mini Golden Retriever - it would be a mutt. But there is a medium-sized dog that looks something like a Golden callled a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. They are pretty rare though.

You could also consider an English or Welsh Springer Spaniel or an English Cocker Spaniel. All are nice dogs and smaller than a Golden. But they will need more grooming.

No, there is not. Not to say there isn't people trying to sell them as such to make some quick cash.

Look into getting a Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, a friend of mine breeds them. They look similar but are quite a bit smaller. Go to a show and meet some breeders or go to the national breed club website.

No, like with other breeds, there are some backyard and puppy mill breeders that will take undersized dogs and breed them down. They are not healthy. Goldens are really nice dogs but if you do not like the size, there are other breeds that are really nice as well. Go to a local dog show (you can find a listing at www.akc.org then go under events then events and awards search) and look around. There is sure to be one that will suit what you are looking for. Just do not look for a mini golden as it will not (with a very, very rare exception) be healthy and will likely develop problems with age.
