When choosing a cat look for one that suits your personality . Let it come to you . As far as breeds, I prefer Tabby's I find them pretty , and very affectionate and gentle , and quite smart. So basically there is no correct answer you have to look at a variety of cats and you will know which one you want . I suggest to either go to a shelter where you will find an assortment of cats .

I don't think that there is 1 perfect breed of cat. The one that's warm, soft and steels your heart. Or the one that's been thrown out by someone else and just needs food, water, safety and a person to call their own for love. Other than that, it depends on the size of the cat your interested in. From small honeybears to large Norwegian Forest cats or Maine coons.

It depends on the person. Each cat has his own personality. Some are affectionate. Some seem aloof, but are otherwise quite loyal.

They all have their little quirks. And if you get them quite young, you can train them to certain behaviors- or to NOT engage in certain behaviors.

It's in my mind that there is no perfect 'breed' as such, any more than there is a perfect breed of human.

None, they all can do that. It's the personality, that you're looking for. My girl cats is lazier in the day, hates rough play, but loves the sting on the stick game. My boy cat loves to be outside no matter what, likes rough play, and eats bugs after the "hunt". Try to find one that looks like it will be lazy and yet active, too. All cats will be friendly with it's owner. Unless you hit and call it stupid, it will not like you.

All breeds are perfect. Of course, individual cats within a breed and across breeds, are like any other animals when it comes to personality and level of laziness, activity, and friendliness.

As the cat ages their activity level will decline some...just like humans (from infancy to senior).

I agree! I don't think you can get any better than a shelter cat. My Smokey came from there 17 years ago and I wouldn't trade him for the world!

Really, it depends on your personality. I like my siamese because he's smarter than most cats. He also still acts like a kitten sometimes, which is fun. Of course, I made sure to get an interesting cat to start out with. (When I first saw him, he was alone in his cage, clawing at the bunnies next door to try to get some entertainment.)
