Want to use either one for a September wedding. Anyone have any idea on the availability of either? Any idea which one would be more expensive? Any idea which one is most fragrant? I'm think the gardenia...?

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Best of luck to you both.

When choosing a flower you might want to also take into consideration their meanings.

Magnolia: Love of Nature

Gardenia: Purity and Sweet Love

Southern magnolia flowers in the summer months.
Other types of magnolia flowers in the winter months so it depends on which variety you would like to have.

Gardenias flower in the spring, summer and autumn

Gardenias are one of the most frequently used flowers for corsages and boutonnieres. So they should be available almost all year round but please check with your local florist to see the prices and availability in your area.

They both have a lovely scent but please keep in mind that some people do have allergies to these flowers so make sure you and your wedding party are not one of them. Watering eyes can make someones time at a wedding miserable especially if that person is you.

Gardenias are DEFINITELY the most fragrant, they have a LOVELY smell. Neither are in season right now, so they're going to be expensive either way. Check around with various florists. Good luck!

I don't recommend either they both smell really bad and that can be really irritating (literally) to people with allergies. Also, you don't want fragrant flowers around food, they interfere with the taste. Gardenia are so potent that they can actually cause a migraine in someone with allergies. Take pity on your guests and go with something less smelly.

Gardenia's are more fragrent.
Both manolia's and gardenia's are early spring bloomers.
Neither in season in September.
So you will pay the price for either one.

Gardenias are the most fragrant. But, they can be very overpowering. Use them sparingly so that peolpe don't get too much of a good thing.

I'm with them - Gardenias! And what's more, you can make your centerpieces out of over-sized brandy snifters and float the Gardenias in them ..... And that would be SO UNIQUE.

(My brother once wooed a well-known Broadway actress by sending a brandy snifter with a Gardenia in it to her dressing room. She had dinner with him!)

You would also be able to put some in your hair - and, since they are white (and I'm sure you thought of this) you can put ANY other kind of flower with it (like some beautiful Stargazers) to make your bridal bouquet.

Oh, I wish I could see this.....
