There are so many people on here that do not believe in God. I was wondering if something significant happened in your lives that caused this disbelief?

nothing really happened. I do not believe because of the teachings and contradictions in the holy scriptures (muslim, jewish and christian), the holocaust, the crusades, the thing the islamic extremists are suppoused to be doing, also it is very unrealistic.
I read about the origins of the bible and it seemed so man made that I realised that it was not the word of God but man.
The only way there could be a God was if he/she was a sadistic being who likes seeing the drama that unfolds in the planet.(not personal experiance but tv documentaries)

Many people dont believe in God because they have become trapped in insignificant materialistic values ie..wealth.. fancy cars..fancy houses..fancy jobs..etc..etc..they are too busy trying to impress people with these THINGS trying to say look at me look at what I have.. they think these THINGS make them important. You can pay a million for a Rolls Royce car..eventually it will end in a crusher yard..you can pay ten million for a house it will eventually fall down..you pay nothing for your spirit and it lasts for infinity.

What would touch your heart more..seing someone driving past in a fancy car ..or seeing someone go out of their way to help a loved relative who is in serious trouble through illness and help pull them through.

They are so attached to these THINGS that they cannot see how they can survive without them..and feel that if they get involved in religion they would have to do without these THINGS.

I pray for them ..I pray that one day they will truly understand the insignificance of these THINGS..and find the truth of the spirituality of religion..to me it is so simple and logical that when we finish our physical life here those THINGS are then rendered useless but our spirits are never ending.

Believe it or not, some people (below 15%) learn how to think properly. Once that happens, belief in dieties usually goes away.

I opened my eyes to a better belief.

Yes, because even though I do not believe in God, does not mean that I dont believe in anything.

"But you read a lot of books, I'm thinking. Hard to have faith, ain't it, when you've read too many books?"
-- Terry Pratchett, Carpe Jugulum

A Comparative Theology course in college was the straw that broke the camel's back. Too much of every faith is borrowed from another source for me to believe any of it was divinely inspired.

Actually, I do believe in God. I guess I'm the wrong person to ask....LOL.

Anyhoo, when I was four, my dad brought me to church and told me about God. I didn't understand what God was at the time and I used to think He was actually the wind blowing....LOL.

And I do go to church. My parents introduced me to God and left me on my own to "discover myself spiritually" because they didn't want to preach down my throat.

My aunt invited me to her church when I was a freshman in college and I liked it so I went regularly and got saved a year later. No one forced it on me or anything.
